Shift: Days | 7:00 AM–7:00 PM or 6:45 AM–7:15 PM

Weekend: Every other weekend

Holiday: May be required to participate in holiday rotation

Call: None

Scrubs: Navy Blue

Unit & Patient Population

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–6 , depending on acuity
• Common patient types include:
  • Cardiac patients
  • Post-pneumonia
  • Post-cath lab
  • Seizures
  • ETOH/CIWA protocols
  • Pacemaker patients
• Monitor tech available 24/7
• RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry
• RNs are expected to print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms
• RT available 24/7 and assigned to the unit
• RT manages BiPAP, Airvo, trachs, and respiratory treatments; RNs should be able to troubleshoot equipment appropriately

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of Stepdown/PCU experience required
• Strong cardiac monitoring experience
• Comfortable managing and titrating cardiac drips
• BLS required
• ACLS required
• Active RN license

• Nitroglycerin
• Heparin
• Dopamine
• Dobutamine
• Angiomax

Staffing & Scheduling

• Day-shift charge nurse generally does not take an assignment unless needed
• Night-shift charge nurse may take a lighter assignment
• Patient care techs assist with ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, call lights, and blood sugars
• Travelers may float to any inpatient unit
• Travelers are first to float
• Self-scheduling is allowed, but schedules are not finalized until the schedule is completed
• Orientation: 2 days general orientation + 1 day with a preceptor
