Be proficient with current technologies, including web site maintenance, graphics design, and publication/print software.Excellent communication skillsUnderstanding of the importance of two-way communicationsExperience in planning and budgetingGood health, physical stamina, fitness and vitalityAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEvidence of adherence to the code of ethics of the public relations professionAccreditation by the National School Public Relations Association or Public Relations Society of America preferredGeneral Description: The Director of Communications coordinates the district's internal and external communications, thus supporting a positive public relations initiative within the community. The Director is also expected to develop and implement a marketing plan for the school district which motivates business, industry, and parents to "Choose Delaware City Schools."Essential Functions:Disseminate information to the public and school district staff.Serve as content creator for district web site, newsletters and other publications.Serve as communications liaison between the media and the district. Prepare and distribute news releases, arrange media interviews and conferences and respond to requests for information.Determine appropriate communications for target audiences.Search for ways to link the community with the district and to seek recognition opportunities for the district.Serve as member of the district crisis team.Serve as information liaison between the total school system and the community at large. Represent the district within various community organizations.Set annual objectives for and evaluate the district's community relations program, to include budget planning for meeting those objectives.Serve as district spokesperson in areas of sensitivity or controversy.Cooperate with district administrators and other staff members, as appropriate, in publicizing and promoting performances, exhibitions, displays, dedications or special programs sponsored by the schools and open to the public.Provide professional public relations counsel and assistance to the administration, Governing Board, schools, parent groups and student groups.Recommend innovative avenues of communication for external and internal audiences.Solicit feedback through formal and informal means on activities, products and purposes of the community relations program and the school district in general.Provide logistical support for all Board Of Education meetings.Conduct recognition programs for employees and students.Expectations:Demonstrate support for the district's Vision, Mission and Beliefs.Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement by engaging in regular professional development activities.Ensure that decisions are based on data.Demonstrate flexibility and openness to innovation in the performance of job related duties.Serve as a role model in how to conduct oneself as a citizen and as a responsible, intelligent human being.Adhere to and enforce all board policies.The employee shall remain free from any alcohol or abuse of a non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the DistrictAdditional Working: Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weatherOccasional interaction among unruly children.
