GIS & Agrivoltaics Education Coordinator
The GIS & Agrivoltaics Education Coordinator will develop, adapt, and deliver a bilingual (Spanish English) GIS agrivoltaics siting curriculum for farmworker high school–aged youth and their families in the Eastern Coachella Valley.
This position will work collaboratively with the Robert Redford Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability (RRC) at Pitzer College and Alianza Nacional de Campesinas (ANC) to support workforce development objectives under the Inland SoCal Thrive Catalyst Pre-Development Grant.
The coordinator will integrate SoCal Earth, a geospatial data platform with 300+ environmental layers, into culturally responsive curriculum and instruction that introduces youth to clean energy, land-use planning, and agrivoltaics career pathways. The role combines technical GIS work, curriculum design, bilingual instruction, and community-centered engagement.
The coordinator will work with the director and other Redford Conservancy staff as needed to coordinate and conduct training as appropriate.
Essential Functions
GIS & Agrivoltaics Curriculum Teaching Assistant
- Working with GIS curricular lead, help implement a GIS agrivoltaics siting curriculum aligned with the goals of the Inland SoCal Thrive grant and ANC partnership.
- Help translate complex geospatial and agrivoltaics concepts into accessible, youth-appropriate, and bilingual instructional modules.
- Assist in implementation of hands-on GIS exercises using SoCal Earth focused on solar potential, soils, water, crop compatibility, environmental constraints, and community impacts.
- Produce bilingual instructional materials, including lesson plans, slide decks, worksheets, datasets, and mapping templates.
Bilingual Instruction & Training Delivery
- Support GIS and agrivoltaics teaching modules to approximately 20–30 farmworker youth (ages 16–24) in Spanish and English.
- Provide parallel bilingual learning opportunities for parents and family members through workshops and demonstrations.
- Facilitate project-based learning in which participants create agrivoltaic sitting maps and analyses relevant to local agricultural contexts.
- Support youth in developing presentation and communication skills around their GIS work.
SoCal Earth Platform Support
- Assist in customizing and curating relevant SoCal Earth data layers for agrivoltaics siting and workforce training.
- Assist with data visualization, map creation, and basic troubleshooting to support instructional use of the platform.
- Provide feedback to RRC staff on platform usability for bilingual, community-based education contexts.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Work closely with ANC staff and member organizations (including Líderes Campesinas) to ensure culturally grounded implementation.
- Participate in community meetings, listening sessions, and program showcases.
- Build trust with youth and families by incorporating lived agricultural knowledge into GIS learning activities.
Documentation, Evaluation & Grant Support
- Document curriculum materials and instructional approaches to support replication across California farmworker regions.
- Collect participant feedback to inform continuous program improvement.
- Assist with reporting, evaluation metrics, and narrative documentation required by the grant.
- Support presentations, briefings, or site visits for funders and partners as appropriate.
Other Duties
- Collaborate with RRC/ANC staff, faculty, and student fellows as needed. Perform other related grant-aligned duties as assigned.
- Participate in select-RRC staff meetings.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Demonstrated experience in GIS environmental education curriculum/modules.
- Experience developing and teaching educational curriculum or training modules, particularly for youth or community audiences.
- Strong understanding of or interest in agrivoltaics, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, or environmental justice.
- Fluency in Spanish and English, with the ability to teach, present, and facilitate discussions in both languages.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, culturally responsive, and engaging manner.
- Experience working with farmworker, immigrant, or underserved communities preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage projects independently and meet grant timelines.
- Comfort with participatory, community-based learning models.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust across diverse age groups and cultural contexts.
- Ability to use Arc GIS Online, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Zoom, and digital learning tools; comfort with multimedia content creation a plus.
- Effective public speaking and facilitation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a flexible, grant-driven environment.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and Zoom. Comfortable using digital cameras and video recording devices, and integrating photographs, video, and other visual elements with text and other media.
- Effective and captivating public speaking and presentation skills.
- Engaging personality with the ability to quickly develop positive working relationships with internal and external partners.
- Ability to serve as a leader, modelling excellence in behavior and performance, assuming personal ownership and accountability.
- Ability to work independently in an unstructured environment, with a motivation to find opportunities and pitch initiatives to increase access for marginalized students to environmental education and the Redford Conservancy. Knowledgeable in working with college and secondary school students. Demonstrate integrity, discretion, professionalism, and a positive attitude. Provide own transportation to off-campus locations.
Education/Experience: Recommended: a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in a related field such as environmental analysis or GIS. Must have demonstrated experience developing GIS workflows, writing and/or field-based educational modules for multiple age groups, plus experience training and directing the work of others.
Preferences: Experience building partnerships a plus.

Time Type: Part time, up to 19 hour per week
Work Schedule: This is a temporary, non-exempt, staff position, working up to 19 hours per week from June 22nd, 2026 up to August 31st, 2026. The regular schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary depending on the operational needs of the College or department, including evenings and weekends as required.

Compensation: Budgeted Salary Range: $24.00-$25.00
