BSA/Risk Manager

Compensation for this position starts at $72,000, but offers can go up depending on experience and transferrable skills. This position is considered hybrid.

As our Risk Manager, you'll play a critical role in protecting the financial strength, reputation, and people of our credit union. Working independently, you'll lead the development, design, and implementation of proactive risk-management and fraud-prevention strategies that reduce financial, physical, reputational, and human risks across the organization.

In this role, you will:

• Implement fraud detection operations. Ensure they are conducted in accordance with established credit union policies and procedures and are legally compliant. Ensure that all activity is properly documented. Implement internal controls to identify and/or prevent suspicious or illegal activities.
• Perform analysis by reviewing daily account activity and examining suspicious transaction patterns. Using independent judgement, proactively mitigate fraud loss by detecting repetitive activity patterns.
• Communicate and/or interview compromised members, if needed, to confirm and identify extent of fraudulent activity.
• Act as credit union liaison with Law Enforcement or other government agencies with investigations. Responsible to collect and preserve evidence, process, review, and respond to all subpoenas and search warrants.
• Collaborate with Payments Manager proactively to reduce risk and minimize losses through debit, ACH, corporate check, money orders, wire, personal check, and credit card fraud.
• Develop guidelines for staff assistance in possible suspicious activity and fraud-related disputes and transactions.
• Manage the credit reporting process including member disputes to ensure that only appropriate changes are communicated to the credit bureaus and that any disputes are handled efficiently and timely.
• Act as the credit union's BSA Officer – ensure the credit union's adherence to the Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.
• Maintain current knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act and all related anti-money laundering and OFAC regulations.
• Prepare and present reports on BSA compliance, fraud prevention, and Financial Exploitation to Chief Risk Officer.
• Working with HR, develop and implement an effective program to educate team members on BSA. Keep employees informed of regulatory changes and updates to BSA and fraud.
• Assist in regulatory examinations and audits related to BSA and fraud prevention.
• Stay ahead of emerging threats by analyzing trends, identifying vulnerabilities, and developing innovative ways to prevent fraud and potential fraud.
• Strengthen our processes by overseeing procedural adjustments and ensuring prevention practices remain current, effective, and aligned with evolving risks.
• Champion a culture of prevention by partnering across the organization to promote sound risk-management practices and continuously improve our approach to protecting the credit union.

Requirements

Education:

• Associate's degree or equivalent combination of training, education and experience.

Experience:

• Minimum two years BSA, Risk Management, or Collections experience.
• Proven success leading a team.
