What does a Senior Creative Technologist do at WPP Production?

The Senior Creative Technologist oversees the definition, architecture, and execution of generative AI workflows used to create high-quality creative marketing content. Positioned at the intersection of creative craft, marketing, generative AI, and production systems, this role is responsible for translating marketing briefs and creative requirements into repeatable generation approaches across copy, imagery, video, templates, and other content format.

In addition to hands-on prototyping and technical pipeline design, the Senior Creative Technologist will lead and oversee the work of other creative technologists. You will guide team members in defining technical requirements, establishing deliverable specifications, and ensuring final output meets delivery benchmarks. Through active mentorship, coaching, and technical guidance, you will empower the team to deliver high-quality work.

Beyond imparting technical skills, this role is about shaping well-rounded creative technologists who are equipped with the soft skills needed to thrive in advertising: presenting, collaboration, client relations, self-confidence, and professional communication.

The Senior Creative Technologist will also serve as technical lead for special projects across a wide variety of formats which may include physical-digital installations, creative computing applications, AR/VR spatial experiences, mobile and desktop gaming applications, and real-time 3D environments.

This role requires someone with proven experience in the creative technology field who is constantly pushing their own craft and re-educating themselves on the latest tools and pipelines. They should be deeply familiar with collaborative work, managing multi-disciplinary projects, and delivering client work; because they'll be preparing others to do the same. They will need to be able to understand and identify automation use cases for and with clients.

Responsibilities

Mentorship & Soft Skills Development

• Acting as a mentor and champion for the team’s successes, building confidence, resilience, and professional identity.
• Ensuring soft skills are developed throughout the team, including presenting, collaboration, client communication, self-advocacy, and creative problem-solving.
• Fostering community among the team and ensuring collaboration remains an integral part of the learning process.
• Providing ample time and space through dedicated office hours, 1-to-1s, and other formats for answering questions and supporting individual progress.

AI-Enabled Workflows

• Designing structured prompt and reasoning approaches for copy, imagery, video, and multimodal generation.
• Generating playbooks that define inputs, outputs, constraints, guardrails, expected variants, and regeneration behavior.
• Defining benchmarking and quality standards for AI-generated content.
• Leading structured experimentation across models, prompting approaches, references, parameters, and workflows.
• Documenting effective prompt patterns, workflow behavior, model characteristics, examples, and lessons learned.
• Designing for continuous improvement based on marketer, reviewer, and production feedback.

Creative Technology – Special Projects

• Designing the approach for bespoke creative technology projects including physical-digital installations, creative computing applications, AR/VR spatial experiences, mobile and desktop gaming applications, and real-time 3D environments.
• Leading and supervising creative technology contributors, helping project teams define clear technical parameters, architecting systems combining hardware with software, troubleshooting technical failures, and delivering work that meets performance metrics.
• Partnering with product managers, technical directors, software engineers, creative directors and other third parties to ensure seamless integration of deliverables.

Personal Development & Industry Engagement

• Continuously pushing your own craft, staying current with the latest tools, models, and pipelines across creative technology.
• Contributing to the wider creative technology team's knowledge base through R&D, internal sharing, and thought leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience working in creative technology, with hands-on delivery across multiple disciplines.
• Proficiency in creative coding
• Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite and workflows. (Bonus for knowing Adobe Firefly Graph and Adobe Workflow Builder)
• Hands-on experience with generative AI tools and an understanding of how to teach others to use them effectively.
• Confident and engaging presenter comfortable in front of classrooms, clients, and senior leadership.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to break down complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
• Comfortable in client-facing environments, with the professional awareness to prepare others for those situations.
• A genuine passion for developing others patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt your approach to meet people where they are.
• Experience managing or contributing to multi-disciplinary projects in an agency or creative studio environment.

The base salary for this position at the time of this posting may range as listed below. Individual compensation varies based on job-related factors, including location, business needs, level of responsibility, experience, and qualifications. US Pay Range

$100,000—$230,000 USD
