Position Overview

Falafel Inc is seeking an experienced Vice President of Operations, Hiring & Training to oversee the people, management, training, and operating performance of approximately 16 restaurant locations.

This is a senior, hands-on, IN restaurant operations position reporting directly to the CEO. The successful candidate will have responsibility for recruiting, hiring, training, management development, labor performance, food cost, store-level execution, employee incentive programs, and the development of the management structure required to support the company’s continued growth.

This is a field-based position, not a traditional office position. The Vice President will be expected to maintain a significant presence in our restaurants and personally visit each location at least once per week.

Responsibilities

The Vice President will be responsible for the overall effectiveness of restaurant operations and the development of our people and management organization.

A primary responsibility will be ensuring that every Falafel Inc location has a qualified General Manager or Assistant General Manager in place, unmatched customer service capabilities and perfect food.

The Vice President will evaluate existing management, identify gaps, recruit new leaders where necessary, promote qualified internal candidates, and ensure that managers are properly trained and held accountable for their restaurants.

The position will oversee restwurant recruiting and hiring across the organization and establish consistent systems for onboarding, training, certification, management development, performance management, retention, and succession planning.

The Vice President will also be responsible for developing clear career paths for restaurant employees and building a pipeline of future Shift Leaders, Assistant General Managers, General Managers, and multi-unit leaders.

The position will have direct responsibility for restaurant operating performance, including labor management, food and paper cost, scheduling and deployment, inventory controls, waste, operating standards, customer experience, and store-level profitability.

The Vice President will receive a budget to recruit and develop two additional direct reports to support the operations and training organization. The successful candidate will help determine the appropriate structure and responsibilities of this team based on the needs of the restaurants.

Field Expectations

This position requires extensive time in the restaurants.

The Vice President will be expected to visit all locations at least once per week and work directly with General Managers, Assistant General Managers, and restaurant teams.

Store visits will include reviewing staffing and schedules, evaluating labor deployment, inspecting food quality and cleanliness, observing service, reviewing inventory and food-cost controls, coaching managers, interviewing candidates, evaluating employees for advancement, and ensuring company operating standards are consistently followed.

Regular driving between restaurant locations is required. Some evening and weekend availability will also be necessary based on operational needs.

Restaurant Financial Experience Required

Candidates must have significant restaurant, QSR, or fast-casual operating experience and a strong understanding of restaurant unit economics.

Applicants should be able to independently read and manage a restaurant P&L and understand labor percentage, food and paper cost, COGS, prime cost, sales per labor hour, inventory variance, waste, average check, transaction counts, store-level profitability, and four-wall EBITDA.

Candidates who do not have direct experience managing restaurant labor, food cost, restaurant P&Ls, and store-level profitability will not be considered for this position and should not apply.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have substantial multi-unit QSR, fast-casual, or restaurant operations experience, including direct experience managing General Managers across multiple locations.

They will also have hands on restaurant experience.

If the candidate has not run or cooked in a restaurant they will not be considered.

Candidates should have demonstrated success recruiting and developing restaurant managers, building high-performing restaurant teams, implementing training programs, improving labor and food-cost performance, and holding store-level management accountable for financial and operating results.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-growing, entrepreneurial organization and reporting directly to a founder/CEO.

This position requires strong leadership, organization, communication, financial literacy, urgency, and the ability to build systems while continuing to manage day-to-day restaurant performance.

This is an operations leadership position with significant responsibility for hiring and training.

It is not primarily an HR, administrative, or classroom-training position.

Direct restaurant operating experience is required.

Performance Expectations

Success will be measured through restaurant operating and people metrics, including management coverage at every location, labor performance, food cost, store-level profitability, employee and management retention, hiring effectiveness, training completion, internal promotions, operating standards, customer experience, and the development of qualified future restaurant leaders.

A major initial objective will be ensuring that every Falafel Inc restaurant has an effective GM or AGM in place and that each management team has the staffing, training, systems, and accountability necessary to operate successfully.

Compensation

The position offers a $120,000 annual base salary, paid vacation, performance-based compensation opportunities, and potential participation in the company’s equity program.

This is an opportunity for an experienced restaurant operator to join the senior leadership of a growing QSR company and take significant responsibility for building the management and operating organization required for its next stage of growth.
