Job Title Computer Support Technician Reports To Director of Technology Department Technology Work Year 261 days FLSA Status Exempt, Full‑year Compensation Salary commensurate with experience ($60,000–$70,000/year) and District benefits package. Job Goal The Computer Support Technician is a highly motivated and self‑directed technical support professional with superior problem‑solving, communication, customer service, technical, organizational, and leadership skills. The role works as part of the district team to assist and support teachers, students, staff, and administrators across multiple buildings in a highly mobile environment. Job Description The position is demanding and requires the ability to function autonomously and as part of a team. Responsibilities include planning projects, managing time, prioritizing tasks, handling service requests, and maintaining a schedule that aligns with the schools and staff served. The technician must shift priorities as situations arise, escalating problems when necessary to expedite resolution, and consistently deliver results in a timely manner. Proactive partnership with customers—identifying issues, anticipating needs, and proposing innovative solutions—is essential. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant experience in a related field. Conditional on satisfactory CORI, SORI, and SAFIS background checks per 603 CMR 51.00. Expertise in supporting users in person and remotely via telephone, chat, remote desktop, and e‑mail on PC, Mac, Chromebook, and iPad. Expertise in managing and troubleshooting desktop and laptop settings and configurations, including printing, directory, and network file sharing. Expertise in installing, configuring, using, troubleshooting, and supporting web and application‑based productivity tools, including office suites, browsers, e‑mail clients, shared calendars, and contact managers. Expertise in training large and small groups of users in technology use. Expertise in communicating technical concepts clearly to non‑technical audiences, orally and in writing. Expertise in managing and troubleshooting IT productivity systems such as ticketing, device management, inventory, user management, and Active Directory. Central Functions of the Job Collaborate with teachers, instructional leaders, library teachers, departmental colleagues, and the technology support team to ensure technology is technically appropriate and fully supported. Support and coach teachers, students, staff, and administrators in technology use. Assist staff and administrators with smooth operation of administrative functions. Maintain staff and student devices fully operational and up to date. Participate in district technology support team meetings. Participate in building infrastructure and curriculum technology projects. Troubleshoot and repair users’ hardware and software problems; track issues using the ticketing system. Arrange for and follow up on warranty work or third‑party repairs. Communicate technology updates and news to building staff. Update building technology inventories. Create and maintain user and system documentation. Assist with setting up and maintaining staff and student accounts. Assist with the setup of technology equipment for special presentations, professional development, and school committee meetings. Assist in the installation and maintenance of audio/video equipment. Perform other tasks assigned by the Director or Superintendent. Supervisory Responsibilities The Computer Support Technician does not have supervisory responsibilities for other staff members.
