Respiratory Therapist - Nights

About the Job Full-time Night Shift. Three shifts each week 7PM-7:30AM. Every third weekend and some holidays required. Provide respiratory care to all patient populations with technique appropriate to chronological, social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development. Respiratory care is ordered by physicians and follows established standards, practice, and protocols. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Contributes to achievement of department goals, objectives, policies, procedures, quality and safety standards; complies with government and accreditation regulations. Assesses the physical, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural dimensions of the patient and documents appropriately. Performs all respiratory therapy treatments and services, including application, operation, monitoring and management of all equipment; services include oxygen, mixed gas, humidity, monitoring, ventilators (invasive and non‑invasive), bronchial hygiene, lung expansion, spirometry testing, EKG machines, blood gas analysis. Employs principles of therapeutic communication, interviewing, problem solving and crisis intervention during patient care. Reviews electronic medical records and physician orders throughout the shift. Responds and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation, maintaining airway, providing oxygen and ventilation via mask, endotracheal tube or other devices, and performing closed‑chest cardiac massage. Facilitates workflow efficiency by monitoring interdepartmental systems and processes, recommending improvements. Performs other duties appropriate to the position; this description is not exhaustive. Complies with all policies and standards. Utilizes organizational resources effectively and efficiently. Where applicable, refers to competency validation documents for served populations. Minimal Qualifications Education Associate’s degree; graduate of an AMA‑accredited program in respiratory care with an AAS Degree or higher (required). Bachelor’s degree in a related healthcare field (preferred). Experience Less than 1 year acute‑care experience. Registry‑eligible required. Licenses and Certifications RCP – Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner; license must be maintained in Maryland/District of Columbia (required). CRT – Certified Respiratory Therapist; licensed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (required). RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist; licensed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (preferred). CPR – Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (BLS and NRP) within 90 days (required). Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit. ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support; required within one year where applicable. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of human respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology as related to respiratory care. Knowledge of operation of respiratory care equipment and its clinical applications. Ability to assess hazardous conditions, take corrective action, work with patients of all ages, remain calm under stress, collaborate, and communicate effectively.
