Position Overview:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will deliver specialized care to patients undergoing cardiovascular and thoracic surgery in an inpatient environment, primarily focusing on the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) and the CV Stepdown Unit. This position emphasizes the management of intricate post-operative cases and involves close collaboration with cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons, as well as a multidisciplinary team, to achieve the best possible patient outcomes.

Work Schedule:

• PRN (as needed)
• Shift Details: 12-hour shifts, mainly during the day, including mid-week and weekends.
• No on-call duties; all responsibilities are fulfilled in person.

Primary Duties:

• Provide comprehensive care for patients in the CVICU and CV Stepdown units following CVT surgery.
• Conduct patient evaluations, create and execute treatment plans, and oversee post-operative recovery.
• Order and analyze diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and carry out bedside procedures within the designated scope of practice.
• Engage in patient education and assist with discharge planning.
• Ensure compliance with clinical protocols, safety regulations, and relevant standards.
• Accurately document all patient care activities in the electronic health record (EHR).

Educational Requirements:

• A Master's degree in Nursing is required (must be obtained within 24 months if not already completed).

Experience Requirements:

• A minimum of one year of experience in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery or advanced practice nursing is required.
• Previous experience in a CVICU setting is highly preferred.

Licensure and Certification:

• A current RN license from the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure is mandatory.
• A Nurse Practitioner license from the Virginia Department of Health Professions is preferred.
• National certification as a Nurse Practitioner (or eligibility upon hire) is required.
• Current certifications in BLS and ACLS are necessary.
