Mechanic Assistant

The City of Corsicana is seeking an experienced Mechanic Assistant to perform skilled mechanical work on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. This position is responsible for diagnosing issues, completing repairs, and maintaining a preventative maintenance program for City vehicles and mechanical equipment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Diagnose mechanical problems on City vehicles and equipment Perform skilled repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, steering components, and other systems Maintain preventative maintenance schedules Order and acquire parts and materials for repairs Operate trucks up to 2½-ton capacity within yard or shop area Perform cleaning and detailing of equipment using power washers and other tools Document maintenance and repair activities accurately Follow all safety regulations and procedures Physical Requirements Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, twist, and raise arms for prolonged periods Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and work in confined spaces Must be able to lift, carry, and push/pull up to 100 lbs Frequent use of hand tools, air tools, power tools, and small parts Ability to climb on and under vehicles for inspection and service Exposure to inclement weather, dust, grease, fumes, and loud noise Occasional evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED required Strong mechanical knowledge of engines, transmissions, and vehicle systems Experience with diagnostic tools and mechanical servicing techniques preferred Knowledge of current vehicle models and servicing methods Must have and maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License and clean driving record Conditions of Employment Pass a criminal history check, background investigation, work fitness physical, and drug screen Maintain a valid Texas driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record Demonstrate punctuality and regular attendance Successfully complete a one-year probationary period Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance Basic life insurance equal to 1X the employee’s annual base salary up to $100,000 and Supplemental Death Benefit equal to 1X the annual base salary, reduced to $7,500 after retirement through the retirement system (TMRS) Optional additional insurance policies Retirement through Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 7% employee contribution and a 2:1 City match Optional tax deferred supplemental 457B plan Employees accrue sick leave at a rate of one workday for each month employed Employees accrue vacation leave at rates dependent upon years of service Employees receive one day each fiscal year for personal leave The City observes 13 paid holidays Longevity pay equal to $6.00/month times length of service with the City of Corsicana.
