About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:00) Experience: Minimum 1 year of PCU/IMC experience within the last 3 years License: New York license required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - PCU/IMC experience - Interpretation of dysrhythmias - Management of dysrhythmias - IV insulin protocols - Titration of insulin drips - Feeding tube care and management - Blood product administration - Central line care/management - Starting IVs - Non-invasive airway management Description: This is a mixed acuity unit for PCU, medical-surgical telemetry, and medical patients. Ratios are adjusted by acuity. The nurse will be responsible for caring for patients post-surgery including ENT, general surgery, trauma surgery, and orthopedic surgery. Overflow medical diagnosis patients will also be included. Rare pediatric patients may be encountered, but travelers are not assigned unless experienced. The unit requires the ability to manage a diverse range of patient needs and conditions. Floating may occur to corresponding units. Each shift will have varying patient ratios, generally ranging from 1:3 to 1:6, depending on the time of day and acuity. The preferred skills include experience with TCAR procedures and telemetry monitoring. The nurse will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including physical therapy and pharmacy. Wound care and management of surgical drains are part of the responsibilities. Isolation precautions and infection control measures must be adhered to at all times.
