Job Title: Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Unit Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Psychiatry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: De-escalation skills Ability to communicate effectively with patients Experience with electronic medical record systems Ability to manage care for multiple patients Ability to assist with discharges and admissions Description: The position is for a registered nurse specializing in a psychiatric unit. This unit serves a range of patients with diverse behavioral health diagnoses. Common diagnoses include schizophrenia, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and depression, as well as suicidal ideation. The nurse will be expected to manage a patient ratio of 1:6 or 1:7 based on staffing levels. Every other weekend, shifts are from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nurses are expected to round every two hours and assist with patient care when short-staffed. There are nurse aides on the unit, contributing to the care. The unit has a total of 36 beds, with sections for adults and children. Nurses may be required to manage patients from both adult and children's sections. The position includes holiday requirements and occasional on-call situations. Fingernail policy prohibits artificial nails in patient care areas. The hospital reserves the right to cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment. Charting is conducted using an electronic medical record system.
