Read United Program Specialist

United Way of Northwest Florida, a dedicated non-profit leader in Bay, Calhoun, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson & Washington Counties, is committed to improving literacy among young learners. We believe that every child deserves the foundation to succeed and that foundation starts with a book. Our Read United program is built around ReadingPals, a proven volunteer-based reading initiative that pairs caring adults with early readers in our local schools. We’re growing that work to reach families at home too, equipping parents and caregivers with the same tools and strategies our volunteers use in the classroom.

As the Read United Program Specialist, you’ll be the heart of the program, recruiting and supporting volunteers, building relationships with schools and families, managing grant requirements, and growing the program’s reach and funding. No two days look the same, and that’s part of what makes this role so rewarding. We’re looking for a passionate, organized, and community-minded individual to lead this work. Your core responsibilities include:

•Leading all aspects of the ReadingPals program: coordinating with schools, scheduling sessions, supporting volunteers, and ensuring every student gets the best experience possible

•Recruiting, training, and retaining a strong pool of ReadingPals volunteers

•Coordinating our parent engagement component, which trains parents and caregivers to bring ReadingPals strategies into their homes

•Managing grant requirements, reporting, and relationships with our ReadingPals grantor

•Actively pursuing additional funding through grants, sponsorships, and community partnerships to grow the program

•Creating and executing marketing and social media content to raise awareness and recruit volunteers

•Representing UWNWFL in the community through events, presentations, and partnerships

Who we're looking for:
You don’t have to check every box, but here’s what will set you up for success in this role:

•A genuine passion for literacy, education, and community impact

•Strong organizational skills: you can manage multiple moving pieces without dropping the ball

•A warm, people-first communication style; you’re comfortable in a classroom, at a community event, or in front of a camera

•Self-starter energy: you take initiative and don’t need someone looking over your shoulder

•Experience or interest in volunteer coordination, community outreach, or program management

•Comfort with social media, Canva, Microsoft Office, and Google Drive

•A background/degree in education is a plus, but not required

•Grant writing experience is a bonus

•Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (driving is part of the job)
