Principal Engineer

Principal Design Engineer – L & L Milwaukee Tool is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions to the professional construction trades. This role contributes to the design and development of new power tools, specifically focusing on mechanical and firmware challenges within the company’s product line. Responsibilities Serve as the chief technical resource and mechanical engineering leader on mid/high complexity Power Tool New Product Development projects. Provide clear engineering information to Project Leaders and the Global Engineering teams to facilitate trade‑off decisions. Establish test regimens for components and assemblies within the project scope with minimal guidance. Deliver complete data analysis to support design recommendations and independently develop, write, and analyze testing reports in the internal laboratory. Serve as a technical resource on areas of expertise and provide consultation/mentorship to others. Effectively manage a technical team and provide technical guidance on complex programs to achieve cost, performance, and schedule requirements. Execute a wide variety of calculations and software‑aided analyses, including mechanical stress analysis, tolerance stack analyses, gearing design, sound and vibration / response of dynamic systems, and mechanism development and analysis. Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics (Master’s preferred). 10+ years of design experience in mechanical engineering. Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (ProE, Solidworks, NX, or similar) and FEA. Deep mechanical aptitude with broad knowledge of engineering materials, properties, and manufacturing processes. Ability to travel up to 10% (domestic and international). Strong interest in tools of the construction trades. Travel Requirements Ability to travel up to 10% (domestic and international).
