Temporary Adjunct FacultyThe University of Saint Joseph invites qualified applicants to serve as temporary adjunct faculty within the Office of Clinical Practice, part of the Education Department. Successful candidates should have teaching experience in CT, possess relevant CT teaching certificates, and experience supervising teacher candidates and/or in-service teachers. The Education Department in the School of Arts, Sciences, Business, and Education seeks qualified candidates with a minimum of a MA in Education and active teaching certificate.We currently have openings to teach the student teaching supervisory course. The course will meet once weekly in the evening. The successful candidate will teach the weekly course, observe instruction of student teachers using a remote supervision software, evaluate instruction presented, using the rubric supplied by the department of education, provide feedback to student teachers, and coach improvement.Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):Develop and/or update a course syllabusPrepare lectures, projects, homework, assessments, and other student assignmentsGrade all student assignments in a timely manner.Provide appropriate feedback to students to promote academic and student teaching successMaintain regularly scheduled office hours; Adjuncts must be available a minimum of one additional hour per week, either in-person or virtually, to provide support to studentsAttend program/department meetings as requestedDemonstrate knowledge of the current methods and practices for teaching college-level courses; present qualified and clear instruction related to the course subjectLearn and utilize technology offered at USJ to facilitate teaching, including but not limited to use of Blackboard and TEAMS to facilitate learningBecome and maintain training in the CPAST assessment system; USJ will provide training materialsMeet all designated class periods in the semester as dictated by the academic calendarSubmit mid-semester and final grades to the Registrar's Office within required timeframes, leave all course records with the department chairperson upon completion of the courseBuild a positive rapport with students and faculty and promote an environment of student success at USJRequirements:Successful candidates should have teaching experience within the field of EducationTerminal degree in Education preferredDegrees must be from an accredited institutionCurrent, active CT teaching certificate(s) requiredCurrent, active CT 092 and/or 093 certificate preferredSignificant technology competencies requiredExperience teaching in virtual formats requiredExperience with EdTPA preferredCommitment to the University of Saint Joseph mission requiredOther QualificationsStrong organizational skills and attention to detail.Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environmentExcellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituentsDemonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient mannerExhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and sales skills, and the ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervisionProfessional, courteous demeanor and appearance; ability to engage positively and work professionally with students, faculty, staff and administration and represent the University professionally to the publicAdditional Information:Teaching assignments are part-time, on a semester basis only and are dependent on student enrollment and department need.Courses are offered in a variety of formats (as decided upon by the Registrar's Office) including in-person, synchronous online, and asynchronous online. Courses are offered at various times, including day, evening, weekdays, and Saturdays.
