Description: The Registered Nurse implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person. The focus is on creating a caring environment centered on healing and wellness. Clinical decision-making incorporates all phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Collecting objective and subjective data is part of the role. Verification of initial assessments obtained by other team members is required. Developing a problem list and prioritizing patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team is essential. Designing actions and interventions relevant to the patient’s culture and age is required. Determining desired outcomes in coordination with the patient and family in accordance with the medical plan of care is expected. Fully implementing patient care therapies and procedures within scope of practice is crucial. The nurse will explain procedures, treatments, and processes to patients and families. Initiating action to alleviate patient stress and discomfort is important. Recognizing, responding to, and communicating changes in patient condition appropriately is required. Ongoing assessment and documentation of responses to procedures and therapies using the nursing process according to policy is essential. Delegating tasks appropriately and overseeing team members in patient care activities is part of the role. Monitoring the accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care is necessary. Identifying and addressing educational needs of patients according to their comprehension is expected. Facilitating the patient discharge process by executing discharge orders in a timely manner is part of the role.
