Job Specific Working Conditions Highland Park Area is looking for a part‑time Capernaum Coordinator to lead the existing Capernaum ministry. Capernaum Coordinator Summary Essential duties encompass spiritual development, leadership development, resource development, direct ministry, and ministry support, complemented by specified training and educational requirements. Essential Duties Spiritual Development Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word. Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines within an active church community. Actively participate in the spiritual life of the Young Life community. With the Area Director lead teams and individuals in spiritual development. Ensure that all Young Life ministry under your leadership is designed and carried out in dependence on prayer that flows from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Leadership Development Partner with the local area director and committee to cast vision for reaching every child within the defined area. Develop a subcommittee to represent the specific needs of teens with disabilities and their families and to raise the needed funding. Hold consistent gatherings with the subcommittee and Capernaum leaders to build unity and provide vision and direction. Create a spiritual leadership plan for Capernaum volunteer leaders and subcommittee members. Recruit and train new leaders to build leadership teams that reflect the community. Train leaders and drivers in the physical care of children with disabilities. Provide quality summer staff, work crew and adult guests for summer camps. Model excellence in contact work, club, campaigners and camping to other leaders. Train leaders, team leaders and committee members to work effectively in teams and develop a yearly ministry strategy with the local Area Director. Resource Development Provide leadership to the subcommittee in finding partners to support the Capernaum area vision and budget. Develop a fundraising strategy with the Area Director and ensure excellence in communication to donors. Build the Young Life brand via public relations as a tool for working with youth in the area. Conduct quality events that reflect Young Life’s capacity to impact children and justify the investment of participants’ personal and corporate resources. Communicate the needs and successes of the local Capernaum ministry to the area committee as directed by the Area Director. Direct Ministry Actively engage in all three levels of contact work. Lead or co‑lead a model Young Life club or an effective campaigner ministry with excellence. Develop and implement ongoing plans to maximize Gospel proclamation through camping opportunities. Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life property, another Young Life camp, or in another position each summer as requested. Develop relationships with school administration, parents and school aides to access children with disabilities. Ministry Support Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures and maintain professionalism concerning office hours, dress, conduct and time management. Maintain accurate records on children, leaders and donors for area records. Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to all involved in ministry. Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience and area needs. Accept both short and long‑term assignments of projects. Training Meet weekly with supervisor. Participate in additional training or experiences as deemed necessary, such as more urban exposure or Taking Donors Seriously (TDS) training. Attend regional training as directed by the regional director. Participate in programs designed for personal spiritual maturity or personal enrichment. Pursue seminars designed to enhance professional skills. Receive the same mission‑wide training as equivalent traditional staff. Education College degree preferred. Qualifications A vital, growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Desire and proven ability to work with a team. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multi‑task, adapt and be flexible. Completion of Core Training – Phase One. Proven leadership skills. Proven relational skills with both children with disabilities and adults. A call to reach children with the Gospel. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Working Conditions Expect exposure to extreme conditions during camp assignments, such as heat, cold, dirt, long hours and physical demands of hiking, horseback riding and boating.
