Senior Principal Scientist Veterinary Pathologist Board Certified

Merck's Research Laboratories seeks an experienced veterinary pathologist to lead nonclinical drug safety assessments for oncology, immunology, vaccines, and biologics candidates. The role emphasizes scientific leadership in toxicological pathology, regulatory strategy, and cross-functional collaboration at a GLP-compliant facility in Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities
- Perform H&E and specialized pathology evaluations to characterize drug safety profiles in toxicology and investigative studies
- Independently analyze postmortem data, interpret results, and assess toxicological significance
- Provide scientific leadership on cross-functional teams to define toxicity mechanisms and guide risk mitigation strategies
- Serve as nonclinical safety lead for drug development programs, overseeing study design and regulatory communications
- Contribute to developing novel biomarkers and predictive models to de-risk drug candidates
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
- 10+ years experience as veterinary pathologist
- 7+ years drug development experience in biotech, pharma, or CRO
- ACVP or ECVP board certification in anatomic pathology
- Residency in anatomic or toxicologic pathology
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across teams
