Registered Nurse Oncology

Job Summary:


The Registered Nurse - Oncology is responsible for delivering skilled nursing care to oncology patients in an acute care hospital setting. This role involves administration and management of chemotherapy treatments, IV therapy, and comprehensive patient assessments. The nurse collaborates closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes while maintaining safety protocols related to chemotherapy and infusion therapies. At least one year of nursing experience is required, with chemotherapy certification preferred. The position includes working 12-hour day shifts and requires flexibility to float within the facility as needed.

Responsibilities:

• Administer chemotherapy treatments including continuous infusion, IV push, and oral chemotherapy
• Handle body fluids post-chemotherapy safely and manage cytotoxic spill disposal
• Monitor patient responses to chemotherapy and communicate abnormal lab values promptly
• Perform IV therapy including accessing ports, starting IVs, and managing PICC and central lines
• Administer blood and blood products, coagulation factors, antifungals, and antivirals as prescribed
• Conduct thorough patient assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with healthcare team
• Document patient care accurately using Cerner electronic charting system
• Provide patient education regarding chemotherapy and infusion therapies
• Float within the facility as needed to meet patient care demands

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois or in application process
• Minimum of 1 year nursing experience (first-time nurses accepted)
• Competence in chemotherapy administration and related safety procedures
• IV therapy and infusion skills including port and central line care
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
• Basic computer skills with experience or ability to learn Cerner charting

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Chemotherapy certification
• Experience working in oncology or acute care hospital settings

Special Considerations:

• Will work every other weekend
• No on-call requirement
• Must be able to float within nursing scope to meet facility needs
• Parking permit required but provided at no cost
• Scrub color: any solid color allowed
• RTO (Return to Office) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
• Client may cancel up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without pay; cancellations beyond this will be compensated

Scheduling:

• 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts (7:15 AM to 6:45 PM)
• Schedule requests and block scheduling to be discussed with manager
