Development Manager, US Climate Alliance Job Category: Career Opportunities Requisition Number: DEVEL002178 Full-Time Hybrid Location The U.S. Climate Alliance is headquartered in Washington, DC. Employees are expected to work from the office at least two days per week and may work remotely from elsewhere in the contiguous U.S. as approved. Description The U.S. Climate Alliance seeks a Development Manager to execute fundraising goals and activities that enable the delivery of critical capacity‑building support to member states. The role reports to the Deputy Director of Member Support and works as part of a broader team including Alliance states, consultants, and external partners. The position is based in Washington, DC (hybrid schedule) with consideration for remote work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Grant Proposal Development Coordinate the development of clear, concise, and impactful grant proposals to advance the Alliance’s policy priorities. Lead writing and editing of grant narratives. Support creation of grant budgets and budget narratives with the Operations team. Gather all supporting materials required for submission. Submit proposals through donor portals and facilitate communication with funders. Compliance and Reporting Track deadlines for grant submissions, reports, and funder engagements. Write and edit progress reports that demonstrate progress toward outcomes. Ensure completion of financial reports in coordination with the Operations team. Facilitate review and approval of materials by leadership. Funder Prospecting and Engagement Research and develop briefing memos on prospective funders aligned with Alliance goals. Identify funding needs and recommend outreach strategies. Serve as primary contact for funder meetings and draft agendas. Develop briefing memos, slide decks, talking points, FAQ documents, and other written material. Draft emails and coordinate outreach and follow‑up. Development Team Management Develop agendas and manage biweekly Development team meetings. Manage CRM updates and maintain contact lists. Establish file maintenance norms for proposals, reports, budgets, and other documents. Annual Fundraising Plan Execute grant deliverables and priorities across Secretariat teams. Align fundraising activities with organization‑wide priorities. Conduct annual work planning to identify and prioritize fundraising activities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development Manager is not a supervisory role.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience. 4–7 years of nonprofit fundraising experience. Experience securing major or mid‑level grants preferred. Knowledge of climate and clean‑energy issues and key philanthropic organizations. Skills in crafting persuasive and engaging content for diverse audiences.

Exemplary written and verbal communication skills. Independent research and analysis aptitude. Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills. Attention to detail and clarity of writing. Ability to organize multiple workstreams and meet deadlines. Proactive, responsible, and committed to the Alliance’s mission. Familiarity with donor databases such as Salesforce and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Airtable. Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role is performed in a professional office environment. Remote work may be approved for employees in the contiguous U.S. with a dedicated workspace.

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

The salary range is $90,000 to $100,000. Full‑time, U.S. benefit‑eligible employees receive health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) retirement plan with matching, life insurance, disability insurance, employee assistance program, and paid time off: 12 holidays, 20 vacation days, 10 sick days, 3 personal days, and 8 weeks of family leave care.
