Medical Assistant III

Job Description Under the supervision of the MA Supervisor/Administrative Nurse Manager, the Hospital Assistant III performs patient care duties directed toward positive patient outcomes. Responsibilities include checking in patients, collecting vital signs, gathering patient information as directed by healthcare providers, coordinating clinic flow, assisting with procedures, transporting patients, coordinating video visits, exchanging patient information with outside practices, and maintaining a safe patient care environment. The Assistant demonstrates excellent customer service, supports nursing staff, ensures accurate documentation of patient/provider communications, participates in quality assurance and improvement projects, maintains clinical logs, participates in medical record audits and scheduling appointments as needed. The role functions in outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, joint UCSF health partnerships, satellite clinics, or with UCSF faculty at other off‑site clinic sites). Responsibilities Manage patient flow through the clinic, including vital signs, verbal history, medication reconciliation, documentation, rooming and cleaning of exam rooms, and efficient communication with colleagues. Coordinate the exchange of patient records via telephone, fax, and the electronic medical records system. Communicate clinical and/or logistical information to patients or retrieve information on behalf of the clinical team. Assist patients with completion of forms or MD letters. Maintain stocked items in the clinic and support areas. Escalate customer service issues to management as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications A minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience in a Primary Care clinic. Position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. CPT‑1 certification current with the State of California. Preferred Qualifications At least 2 years of outpatient medical assistant experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency with EPIC or a similar electronic medical record system. High School Diploma or equivalent. Second language skills. Required Licenses/Certifications Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program or equivalent training and experience. Current CPR BLS card.
