Job Description

The Mechanical Technician builds and assembles generator components and subsystems in a hands-on manufacturing environment while following established procedures. In this role, you inspect test units, document findings for engineering teams, and actively support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and efficiency. You work closely with engineering and production teams, using precision measuring equipment and technical documentation to ensure complex assemblies meet strict specifications. This is a second-shift position, working from 5:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Responsibilities

• Build and assemble generator components and subsystems according to established assembly procedures and engineering instructions.

• Read and follow detailed assembly procedures, engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions to complete complex mechanical assemblies.

• Perform mechanical assembly tasks using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment in a manufacturing setting.

• Inspect test units and assembled components to verify conformance to specifications, including tight tolerances down to .001 inches.

• Use precision measurement tools such as micrometers, bore gauges, and gauge blocks to measure, verify, and document critical dimensions.

• Troubleshoot mechanical issues in assemblies, including automotive-style and heavy equipment components, to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

• Conduct testing and quality inspections, accurately recording results and documenting findings for engineering and quality teams.

• Collaborate closely with engineering and production personnel to resolve technical issues and improve assembly processes.

• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts related to safety, quality, efficiency, and lean manufacturing practices on the production floor.

• Support metal fabrication and equipment assembly activities as needed to meet production and project requirements.

• Follow all safety guidelines and procedures while handling tools, equipment, and materials, including lifting up to 25 lbs frequently and 50 lbs occasionally.

• Participate in process and safety improvement initiatives by providing feedback, suggestions, and practical problem-solving input.

Essential Skills

• Strong mechanical assembly skills with the ability to build complex assemblies from detailed procedures and engineering documentation.

• Proficiency in using precision measurement tools such as micrometers, bore gauges, and gauge blocks to verify tight tolerances (.001").

• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and assembly instructions.

• Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical assembly equipment in a manufacturing or industrial environment.

• Experience performing quality inspections, testing, and documentation in a production or engineering setting.

• Troubleshooting skills for mechanical systems, including automotive, heavy equipment, or similar mechanical assemblies.

• Experience working in manufacturing, automotive, heavy equipment, energy, aerospace, or industrial environments.

• Ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds while performing job duties.

• Experience contributing to process or safety improvements in a production or manufacturing environment.

• Background in metal fabrication or related mechanical fabrication processes.

• Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and practices.

Work Environment

This role operates in a hands-on manufacturing environment focused on power generation and mechanical assembly. You work on a second-shift schedule from 5:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, bore gauges, and gauge blocks. The work involves frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds, as well as standing, moving between workstations, and handling metal components and assemblies. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Menlo Park, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $37.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
