Nursing Manager/Director

Responsible for planning and coordinating all staffing, supplies, and patient care activities for the assigned departments. Oversight of the overall financial performance of the assigned departments. Sets the annual budget for departments and practices cost-effective utilization of staff and resources. Suggests alternatives for increasing cost-effectiveness. Coordinates Nursing Service orientation of new staff and monitors skills. Provides guidance for new skill development. Makes patient care assignments based on care requirements, complexity, and qualifications of personnel. Reviews and recommends changes in staffing standards based on patient classification/staff utilization studies. Revises, implements, and administers nursing services and department-specific policies, procedures, and standards. Collaborates with other healthcare providers in conducting patient care conferences. Facilitates area quality improvement activities to monitor compliance with high standards of patient care. Identifies areas needing focus for performance improvement. Assists in training and career development of staff. Partners with Education and Human Resources to provide ongoing education, training, and competency validation. Ensures completion of all education, training, and competency validation by due dates. Updates Job Descriptions and performance standards as required. Evaluates performance of staff based on Job Description and standards. Communicates potential administrative concerns and unresolved employee or patient issues. Oversees the planning and approval of staffing schedules. Effectively delegates assignments to appropriate staff members. Sets annual departmental goals. Oversees supply and equipment ordering for the department. Identifies departmental needs for personnel, equipment, and training for program planning. Implements regulatory agency standards in the assigned departments. Supports leadership strategies and fulfills assignments delegated by the Chief Nursing Officer. Acts rapidly and effectively in any emergencies. Participates in Nurse Executive Committee meetings and applies information presented. Complies with dress code and addresses employee concerns consistent with policy. Promotes organizational strategies and fosters a supportive environment. Follows all duties and responsibilities as described for the Registered Nurse position. Able to step into patient care roles as required by changing care needs. Exercises professional judgment in determining the correct course of action. Remains calm and makes sound judgments in emergency situations. Addresses performance, behavioral, or quality of care issues when identified. Provides positive feedback for staff who meet or exceed performance standards. Makes recommendations for additional recognition of outstanding performance as appropriate. Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing required. Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred. Five years of professional nursing experience preferred. Minimum two years as staff RN in a specialty unit preferred. One year with supervisory responsibilities preferred. Knowledge of nursing care principles, practices, and processes. Skills in computer systems and proficiency in nursing procedures. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong decision-making and critical thinking skills. Ability to enter and retrieve patient data accurately. Able to communicate findings with the healthcare team. Anticipates departmental needs and plans accordingly. Researches new products and equipment for nursing services division. Ability to demonstrate competencies in Nursing Standards of the assigned unit.
