Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct leadership and clinical supervision to nursing staff assigned to the unit.

• Ensure residents receive safe, compassionate, and appropriate nursing care.

• Monitor resident conditions and ensure changes in condition are promptly identified, documented, and reported.

• Review and follow up on physician orders, treatments, medications, care plans, and resident needs.

• Ensure accurate and timely completion of nursing documentation and clinical records.

• Participate in the development, implementation, and updating of resident care plans.

• Communicate effectively with residents, families, physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members.

• Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, performance, and compliance with scheduled assignments.

• Ensure staff remain on their assigned units and complete required responsibilities throughout their scheduled shifts.

• Address performance, attendance, documentation, and clinical concerns promptly and appropriately.

• Conduct or participate in staff education, coaching, counseling, and performance evaluations as assigned.

• Assist with investigations, incident reports, grievances, and resident/family concerns.

• Monitor infection prevention and control practices and ensure staff follow facility procedures.

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including applicable CMS, OSHA, and nursing-home requirements.

• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) activities.

• Assist with survey preparation and promptly address identified deficiencies.

• Monitor staffing needs and communicate staffing concerns to the DON and scheduler.

• Ensure proper handoff and communication between shifts.

• Maintain confidentiality of resident and employee information.

• Promote teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and respectful communication among staff.

• Respond appropriately to emergencies and ensure resident safety at all times.

• Perform other duties as assigned by the DON or Administrator.

Attendance and Dependability

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. The RN Unit Manager is expected to report to work as scheduled, remain available and present on the assigned unit during working hours, and provide consistent leadership and support to residents and staff.

Qualifications

• Current and unrestricted RN license in the applicable state.

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

• Long-term care/skilled nursing experience preferred.

• Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.

• Current CPR certification as required by the facility.

• Knowledge of federal and state long-term care regulations.

• Strong clinical assessment, communication, organization, and leadership skills.

• Ability to work effectively with residents, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
