Central Registration Clerk

A Central Registration Clerk welcomes patients, educates them on copayments and financial obligations, collects payments, schedules appointments, and updates patient information. They promote new technologies, connect patients to financial resources, and foster a culture of service excellence, ensuring a positive UPMC experience for patients and families.

Responsibilities:

• Pre-register and Register patients for hospital and specialty areas with accuracy.
• Process the transfer of patients from other hospitals and facilities.
• Perform insurance authorizations for patient registration as necessary
• Process patients with appropriate diagnosis as required by specific insurance.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
• Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies / behaviors.

• High School Graduate or equivalent
• Knowledge of medical terminology required
• Previous physician office or medical facility experience, including insurance, experience required
• Strong computer and data entry skills needed
• Must have good communication and telephone skills.
• Ability to deal with the general public in a professional and courteous manner.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment.
