JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Adheres to all hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital's Standards of Excellence. This position is a student and only applies prescribed ionizing radiation procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail for diagnostic purposes under the prescription of a physician. Assumes responsibility for designated areas of procedures as required. Participates in Stand-by/on call rotation with other Radiology Technologist staff. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care. Adheres to organizational safety standards, infection control policies and procedures as relevant to the department.


REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:

Currently enrolled as a second-year student in an ARRT approved school. Current WA State license active and in good standing as an X-Ray Technician (XT). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Functional with designated radiation emitting, processing and record retrieval equipment. Good critical thinking skills required. Clerical and computer skills required. Proficiency in written/verbal communication in English language is required as a business necessity. Use of personal protective equipment as appropriate, training related to blood-borne pathogens is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and radiation emitting equipment. Risk of exposure to communicable disease, and risk of physical injury from lifting, moving or transferring patients.

WORK CONTACT GROUP: All hospital departments, patients, families, visitors, nursing personnel and medical staff.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to transport patients via wheelchair or stretcher and transfer patients to radiology table as necessary. Stands and walks for long periods of time. Must be able to stoop, bend, push and pull. Must be able to transport, transfer and assist patients as needed using "Zero Lift" techniques and equipment. Operates technical equipment requiring manual and visual dexterity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TECHNICAL

• Performs radiographic procedures using appropriate positioning technical factors per departmental policy and protocols. Demonstrates an understanding of and utilization of anatomical landmarks for proper positioning; places left, right appropriate marker on each film. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the portable equipment, and radiology rooms.

• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of ALARA. Wears film badge and turns in for monthly evaluation, and exercises necessary radiation protection for patients, self and all other personnel.

• Ensures that patients are properly identified and prepared for radiological procedures; provides protective shielding as required.

• Performs other related duties incidental to diagnostic radiology, such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and documenting patient quality care issues, as appropriate. Participates in department QA processes as assigned.

• Monitors work schedule and patient flow in the department continuously to minimize patient delays, customer complaints and makes productive use of down time.

• Remains knowledgeable and practices all current department specific and hospital wide policies and procedures, and protocols.

• Participates in required in-service education; maintains departmental competencies.

• Provides appropriate patient care (ensures that patient is properly clothed and draped for procedure, explains procedure to patient and family or significant other as appropriate) facilitates patient comfort by demonstrating respect for their modesty, warmth and as pain free as possible. Monitors medical equipment attached to patient, such as IV and foley catheter, etc.

• Demonstrates respect for patient's dignity and privacy and maintains patient's confidentiality.

• Maintains cleanliness and safety (washes/sanitizes hands prior to and after each patient contact), adheres to all infection control policies and procedures.

• Transports and transfers patients as needed using "Zero Lift" techniques and equipment.

• Documents and query patient when screening for contrast allergies, prior reaction, pregnancy, evaluates possible need for pre-medication with Radiologist.

• Demonstrates attitudes and behaviors when interacting with others that are courteous, polite, concerned, friendly and respectful resulting in favorable patient, physician and staff perceptions of the hospital and its employees.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Local 3000.
