P.M. CustodianThe responsibility of assigned cleaning and maintenance items as designated by the Head Custodian or other supervisory personnel.Performance Responsibilities:Routinely and regularly attends work, arrives on time, and works consistently until the end of the scheduled day.Cleans assigned areas of responsibility.Daily clean and disinfect all drinking fountains, sinks, urinals, toilet seats and toilet bowls. DO NOT use the same cleaning equipment for the drinking fountains and sinks as would be used for the urinals and toilets. It is essential that all washrooms are completely and thoroughly cleaned daily.Must complete daily the Custodian Check List to assure all cleaning has been completed for each individual room and area assigned. Check List is attached as PM Custodian Check List.Daily sweep all floors and stairs in your assigned section and lock all windows and exterior doors that may have been left open by teachers and/or pupils.Daily empty all waste containers. Wash waste containers once a week. Use plastic liners wherever necessary.Daily dust chalk rails, locker tops, windowsills, ledges, cabinet tops and any other furniture where dust accumulates.As needed keep towel dispenser, soap dispensers and toilet tissue dispensers filled.Wash smudges from desks, locker doors, toilet doors, classroom doors and door jambs.Custodians shall, when needed or when instructed, wash windows, walls, ceilings, floors, stairs, entryways and desks. The replacement of all burned out light bulbs shall be the responsibility of all custodians.All custodians are required to report immediately all emergency conditions and non-working apparatus and fixtures to the head custodian and supervisor so that repairs can be scheduled and performed.Custodians are not to discipline or punish children for overt actions. These incidents must be reported to the principal as soon as possible. Custodians are to caution children about pushing or running in halls or if they are engaged in hazardous play on or about the buildings and/or grounds.All keys issued any employees must first be preceded by a signed receipt for said keys. Keys are not to be copied except by the written permission of the Superintendent of Schools or Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.Custodians assume the responsibility for securing the building. Custodians are required to keep all exterior doors always locked when not required to be open for school use and in no case shall permit persons not connected with the schools to enter the buildings after hours. Authorized groups will be permitted to enter the school during evening hours as per the instructions of the letter of approval, the Superintendent of Schools and the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds.Custodians shall not part with the custody of their keys to any person except the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, his assistant, the principal or the Superintendent of Schools. The loss of keys is to be reported immediately to your supervisor. If a custodian leaves the employee of the District, his keys shall be returned before the release of the final payroll check.Performs summer maintenance (i.e., strip/wax floors, moves furniture, painting, etc.) for the purpose of completely and/or facilitating summer construction.Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (i.e., facility damage, vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel for resolution.The telephone numbers of all custodians, maintenance mechanics, Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and the Superintendent shall be in the possession of each and every custodian and also listed in a prominent place in the office in the event of emergencies. All emergencies are to be reported immediately.Custodians must be able to follow instructions and must have quality of inquiring before taking action on items with which one is not familiar.Custodians must have the ability to read basic operating instructions.All other duties that may be assigned by the supervisorQualifications:Minimum, but not required, High School DiplomaSkills:High degree of multi-tasking and time management capabilityExcellent written and verbal communication skillsExperience:Preferred experience as custodian, janitor or in a similar roleKnowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliancesKnowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous componentsPhysical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
