Job Title: Production Worker Job Description

This role starts as a hands-on labor position in a clean, industrial manufacturing environment, with a clear path to progress into a machine operator role. You will support day-to-day production activities, use precision measuring tools, and assist with material handling and shipment preparation while learning the skills needed to operate CNC and other machining equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform general labor duties in a manufacturing setting, including handling materials and supporting production operations.

• Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures to verify dimensions and ensure product accuracy.

• Maintain a clean and orderly facility by performing regular housekeeping tasks in work areas.

• Assist with preparing and organizing shipments of orders, including building and securing pallets for outbound materials.

• Safely operate an overhead crane to move and position steel and other heavy materials as directed.

• Follow established safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.

• Develop skills to tier up into a machine operator role by learning CNC machine operation and related processes.

• Support machining activities in an industrial, steel manufacturing environment with milling and lathe equipment.

• Apply basic math skills to measure, calculate, and verify production specifications.

• Collaborate with team members across different shifts to maintain consistent production flow and quality standards.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on labor experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

• Proficiency using micrometers and calipers to perform accurate measurements.

• Ability to read and use a tape measure confidently and correctly.

• Solid math ability to perform basic calculations related to measurements and tolerances.

• Previous machining experience in a manufacturing or machine shop setting.

• Comfort working around heavy equipment such as overhead cranes in a steel manufacturing environment.

• Ability to follow safety protocols and use required protective equipment consistently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• CNC machine operating experience in a job shop or similar environment.

• Experience working in a job shop setting with varied, custom machining work.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints to understand part specifications.

• Understanding of tolerances and how they apply to machined components.

• Exposure to milling and lathe machines within an industrial facility.

• Interest in progressing from a labor position into a machine operator role over time.

Work Environment

The work takes place in an enclosed, temperature-regulated industrial facility focused on steel manufacturing, with extensive milling and lathe machines. The building is well lit and kept relatively clean compared to typical industrial settings, making it one of the cleanest machine shops in northwest Indiana. Certain areas can be loud due to active machining operations, so hearing protection is part of the standard safety gear. The schedule follows a rotating 21-day pattern, with two weeks spent on each shift: five days on first shift with Saturday and Sunday off, five days on third shift with weekends off, and five days on second shift with weekends off. The company provides steel-toe footwear, and the dress code includes a uniform, metatarsal protection, ear plugs, hard hat, and safety glasses to ensure safety and compliance with industrial standards.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $37980.80 - $37980.80/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
