About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Progressive Care Unit experience License: Valid Nursing License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Telemetry interpretation skills Experience with high acuity medical/surgical/cardiac patients Description: Level III Trauma Center with a 167-bed capacity. Medical Surgical Unit with 16 beds. Average census of patients per day is not specified. Patient Types and Common Diagnoses include Progressive Care and Medical Surgical patients. Patients may have conditions such as cardiothoracic surgeries, COVID-19 pneumonia, hypoxia, COPD, CHF, atrial fibrillation, SVT, UTI, sepsis, diabetes ketoacidosis, bariatrics, and more. Noninvasive ventilation techniques include Nitric Oxide Therapy and Continuous BiPAP. Patient ratios range from 1:3 to 1:5. Skills required include the ability to interpret telemetry, manage chronic trachs, and handle chest tubes. Nurses will care for patients on high flow oxygen systems and will start IVs. Management of drips includes heparin, insulin, diltiazem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin (not titrated). Unit functions similarly to a cardiac stepdown unit. Bedside monitoring is available in patient rooms. A decentralized nurses' station is in operation. Charge RN experience is preferred but not required. Support within the Department includes CNAs, HUC during the day, charge nurse, phlebotomy, Rapid Response/Code Team, RT services 24/7, hospitalists available 24/7, and an educator. Technology and equipment used includes an EMR system with preferred experience, IV Pump, and bedside monitors. Floating within the scope of practice is expected. There will be unit-specific expectations, including weekend rotations and holiday expectations. Weekend shifts for nights are Friday and Saturday, with flexibility needed for some Sunday nights. On-call expectations are not required. Holiday expectations involve working every other holiday. Approval of time-off requests is required. Performance and professional appearance standards must be adhered to, including dress code guidelines.
