Location

Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Communication in the School of Communication and Media with a preferred start date of August 2027. This is a nine-month contracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

• Teach required and elective courses across the School of Communication and Media, with primary responsibilities supporting the Journalism and Emerging Media program and supplemental teaching in the Media and Entertainment program. Potential courses include Digital Media Production, Uses and Effects of Mass Media, Data Journalism, Investigative Reporting, Narrative Journalism and Fundamentals of Digital Journalism.
• Develop and integrate courses in artificial intelligence and data visualization that enhance our offerings to students in the School of Communication and Media.
• Teach on the Kennesaw and/or Marietta campuses, as assigned. Courses may be delivered in face-to-face, hybrid and online formats.
• Teach courses of various sizes, ranging from lab skills courses in journalism to large lectures in foundations and introductory courses.
• Maintain an active program of research or creative scholarship in artificial intelligence and data visualization as it relates to the field of Communication consistent with the expectations of a tenure-track faculty appointment.
• Disseminate research and scholarship in appropriate, high-quality outlets.
• Proactively seek external funding to support research and creative scholarship consistent with the expectations of a tenure-track faculty appointment.
• Contribute expertise in data visualization and artificial intelligence to curriculum development involving the practical, critical, ethical and professional implications of emerging technologies.
• Contribute service to the School, College, University and profession and collaborate with colleagues in a multidisciplinary School of Communication and Media.
• Contribute, as appropriate, to professional development opportunities for students and communication professionals, community partnerships and interdisciplinary projects within the College.
• Opportunities to teach graduate courses may also be available.

Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Required Qualifications

• A terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent, in communication, mass communication, journalism, digital media or a closely related discipline is required at the time of hire.
• Demonstrated expertise in the application of artificial intelligence to journalism, media production or other communication fields.
• Documented teaching, course-development or professional experience demonstrating preparation to teach courses related to application of data visualization and artificial intelligence to communication and media professions.
• Documented scholarly or creative activity demonstrating the potential to maintain an active program of research or creative scholarship.
• Documented experience or training relevant to face-to-face, hybrid and online instruction, such as prior teaching, course design or formal instructional training.

Preferred Qualifications

• Documented teaching, course-development or professional experience demonstrating preparation to teach courses related to digital media, journalism or media production.
• Active record of quality dissemination of research in artificial intelligence and data visualization in communication and mass communication fields.
• Experience in seeking external funding to support research and creative production in fields of expertise.
• At least two years of professional experience in digital or broadcast media production.
• Experience with data journalism, data visualization, computational methods, creative artificial intelligence, sports media production or related areas.
• Evidence of excellence in teaching and student engagement, as demonstrated by teaching evaluations, peer observations, teaching awards, instructional materials or similar evidence.
• Experience contributing to curriculum development involving emerging technologies and their practical, ethical and professional implications.
