Veterinary Assistant

Ambassador Animal Hospital is looking for a friendly, dependable, and compassionate Exam Room Assistant to join our veterinary team. This is a great opportunity for someone who loves animals, enjoys working with people, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

As an Exam Room Assistant, you’ll play an important role in creating a positive experience for both our patients and their families. You’ll work closely with our veterinarians and veterinary support team to keep appointments running smoothly, assist with patient care, and help ensure every client feels welcomed and well cared for.

Responsibilities

• Greet clients and patients and help create a warm, welcoming experience
• Assist veterinarians during appointments and examinations
• Prepare accurate treatment estimates for recommended treatment plans, surgeries, and procedures, and clearly communicate associated recommendations, costs, and next steps to clients.
• Safely and compassionately handle and restrain dogs and cats
• Obtain and document patient histories, weights, and other basic information
• Prepare exam rooms before appointments and clean and disinfect rooms between patients
• Escort patients to and from treatment areas when necessary
• Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked exam rooms
• Assist the veterinary team with patient flow during busy appointment periods
• Provide compassionate support to clients and patients, including during stressful or emotional visits
• Follow hospital safety, sanitation, and patient-care protocols
• Assist with other hospital duties as needed to support the team

What We're Looking For

• 1-2 years of prior experience in a veterinary clinic required. 
• Working knowledge of veterinary terminology and common procedures preferred.
• A genuine love for animals and an interest in veterinary medicine
• Friendly, professional, and comfortable communicating with clients
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work well as part of a team
• Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment
• Able to remain calm and compassionate when working with nervous pets or concerned owners
• Willingness to learn and take direction from veterinarians and senior team members
• Ability to safely lift and assist with animals of various sizes (with help from other staff members as necessary)
