Description: A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit. The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education supported by a Practice Governance framework. The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. The RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction. The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff. Responsibilities include performing assessments and reassessments as warranted by patient condition. The RN demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions. The RN initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care and reviews and revises the plan as indicated. The RN collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services. The RN utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of patients and families. The RN monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions. Facilitating, coordinating, providing, and evaluating education specific to patient and family needs during their stay and at discharge is essential. The RN delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel and functions as a mentor/preceptor. The RN demonstrates, encourages, and facilitates teamwork. Identifying and appropriately communicating opportunities for improvement is part of the role. The RN participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts and implements practice changes. Compliance with regulatory standards is required. Participation in the Practice Governance model is expected.
