UT Outpost Student Leadership Board

The UT Outpost unit is seeking motivated and service-oriented students with strong communication and customer service skills to join the UT Outpost Student Leadership Board for the 20262027 academic year. Student employees play a vital role in supporting UT Austin students by assisting with daily operations of UT Outpost and helping connect peers to basic needs resources in a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment. Through direct engagement with students, inventory and distribution support, and outreach efforts, UT Outpost student employees contribute to the university's commitment to student well-being, access, and success. This position offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community support, resource coordination, and peer engagement while positively impacting the campus community.

Responsibilities include overseeing the day-to-day operations of UT Outpost; leading the UT Outpost student organization; managing the front desk; receiving, logging, and processing donations; training and leading student organization members and volunteers; logging all donation and visitor data; collaborating with student organizations, academic departments, and university partners; preparing, picking up, and delivering items; educating the campus community about food insecurity; learning about local resources; assisting with process updates; working in compliance with all university, departmental, and programmatic policies; completing and submitting all required documentation; maintaining confidentiality; and completing other duties as assigned.

Position specific responsibilities include ensuring that UT Outpost and its team are adhering to regulations and guidelines regarding professional clothing quality; designing and maintaining an engaging store layout; collaborating with the Dean of Students Communications Team; managing cap & gown inventory and checkout process; establishing partnerships with campus and community entities; ensuring that UT Outpost operations are sustainable; facilitating collaboration with campus organizations; overseeing hydroponic towers initiative; picking up bi-weekly deliveries; tracking sustainable efforts; and maximizing consumption of food items to reduce and eliminate food waste.

Time commitment includes being a UT Outpost Board Member for the 2026 Fall Term and 2027 Spring Term; working up to 15 hours each week; attending weekly UT Outpost team meetings; being scheduled for 4, 4-hour Saturday UT Outpost shifts each term; and attending a weeklong training the week before the Fall semester begins.

Required Qualifications

Anticipated enrollment for the academic year at UT Austin as an undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum of 6 credit hours; maintaining academic standards and a clean disciplinary record; flexible schedule to accommodate daytime, evening, and weekend work; authorization to work in the United States of America; completion of the UT Outpost mandated Student Leadership Board training; participation in weekly team meetings; completion of additional training sessions as needed; completion of all policy and procedural documentation; prepared to work in a fast-paced environment; and ability to lift at least 30lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent verbal and written communication; experience with public speaking; ability to work in a team and provide meaningful contributions; strong organization skills and attention to detail; preferred to have a valid Texas driver's license; experience with Macintosh computers and software or the ability to learn applications quickly; work study status; and other experience/skills relevant to position responsibilities.

Salary $11.60 per hour
