Position Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy (Tenure-Track)Department: Dean's Office Reports to: Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of FacultyClassification: Full-time, ExemptAnticipated Start Date: Appointment is expected to commence on July 1, 2028Salary: Competitive Salary ABOUT CHRISTIAN THEOLOGICAL SEMINARYChristian Theological Seminary (CTS) is a fully accredited ecumenical graduate school in Indianapolis, IN, related to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and serving the whole people of God. We welcome all faiths to explore/ engage in an intellectually rigorous, spiritually formative, and emotionally supportive education that equips our students to go out into the world and serve-whether in the church or the community. CTS also offers a robust counseling program that provides professional counseling preparation and spiritual/theological integration for those training to become mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, pastoral psychotherapists, and spiritual care specialists. JOB SUMMARYThe Assistant or Associate Professor teaches graduate courses. Develops and organizes course curriculum and instructional materials. Conducts research in the field of expertise. Serves as academic advisor to students. Provides service to the department, school, or public through such activities as leading committees and volunteer work. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily.Full -time, tenure-track appointment with faculty rankFaculty workload consists of 15 credit hours per academic year. Faculty workload for this position consists of teaching 9 credits (three courses) per academic year and providing six hours of practicum supervision during the academic year, with the practicum supervision carrying a workload equivalency of 6 credit hours. Year-round (12 months) counseling supervision/field experience practicumActively contribute to the faculty's collaborative efforts to maintain the program's COAMFTE accreditationCommittee serviceMeaningful participation in a collaborative learning community in alignment with the Faculty HandbookParticipate in outreach, open house events, admissions, and student recruitment activitiesOther assigned duties SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESProvide mentoring for teaching associates, provide mentoring in all aspects of classroom management and instruction, including a role in evaluating student work.Responsible for training, coaching, managing personnel, planning, assigning, delegating, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems for assigned teaching associates. EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONSThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability the employee should have:Earned doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in Marriage and Family Therapy.Possession of an additional theology or religious studies degree (e.g., MDiv, MTS, DMin, or MA), with preparation in pastoral theology, is preferredStrong commitment to the integration of theological reflection and social justice principles with the healing wisdom found in counseling, psychology, and the social sciences Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in good standing and eligible for Indiana licensure by endorsement. The successful candidate must obtain Indiana LMFT licensure within one year of the start of employment and maintain that licensure in good standing throughout their appointment.Contribute a specialization in a MFT therapeutic model or approach, addiction counseling, trauma-informed leadership, family counseling, play therapy, and sexuality, gender, and cultureDevelop and maintain an active scholarly research agenda, including publications and presentations, and participate in service to the program and profession, demonstrating evidence of their professional therapist identity, as described by COAMFTEA background in chaplaincy studies is desired WORK ENVIRONMENT AND WORK SCHEDULEThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
