Company: Guy Carpenter Description: We are seeking a talented individual to join our team at Guy Carpenter. This role will be based in Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Boston, Denver, or Edina. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office. Join an industry-leading Peril Advisory team of scientists and engineers who translate technical and academic expertise in natural catastrophe risk into actionable business insights and solutions for the insurance industry. We will count on you to: Develop, deploy, and support Peril Advisory products alongside Guy Carpenter experts through the GC Cat Studio offering. Support the team in developing and communicating the Guy Carpenter View of Risk to guide clients’ risk decisions. Lead event response activities, including rapid analysis and communication following natural catastrophe events. Evaluate catastrophe models and perform model validation to ensure robust risk assessment. Design and implement models, risk scores and other analytical tools to support the risk selection and risk transfer process. Deliver client-facing products and provide ongoing client support, collaborating closely with catastrophe advisory, global analytics, advisory, and broking teams. What you need to have: Bachelor’s degree in civil, structural, or environmental engineering, or natural sciences focused on natural disasters; internship or research experience required. Proficiency in statistical computing (Python, R), with experience in data visualization and applying machine learning/AI techniques. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and deliver actionable insights. Proficient with Microsoft technologies (Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, Power BI) and a collaborative mindset with strong interpersonal and client-facing communication skills. What makes you stand out: 2+ years of professional experience is a plus; a graduate degree (MS, PhD, or postdoctoral) in a related discipline strengthens your candidacy. Deep knowledge of weather and climate models (including stochastic/dynamical downscaling), severe storm physics (e.g., convective storms, tropical cyclones), earthquake forecasting/ground motion models, and engineering damage characteristics from hazards (earthquake, wind, flood, fire); familiarity with industry catastrophe models and emerging-risk applications (including renewable energy). Experience with cloud computing, data engineering, modern databases (e.g., Databricks), and scalable distributed processing of spatial data. All Marsh colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person. The applicable base salary range for this role is $79,500 to $145,800. The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
