Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Night Shift | 3x12-Hour Shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | Every other weekend expected | Longer contracts of 13–26 weeks may be considered

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a Med/Surg Oncology unit, caring for and monitoring patients who have received chemotherapy, biotherapy (IV, PO, or injection), and managing a broad range of general medical-surgical diagnoses
• Perform and manage clinical skills including colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, peripheral line care, heparin and insulin drips, surgical drains, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
• Float as needed to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding areas such as the ED or other medical patient care locations
• Participate in on-call requirements if called off on a prescheduled shift, with make-up shifts to be rescheduled accordingly
• Attend monthly staff meetings as required
• Be prepared to serve on a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team; contract staff may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a compact state (pending license acceptable for submission)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of experience in an inpatient setting required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Willingness to obtain the ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration certification prior to or during the assignment; onsite training provided by the facility
• Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are welcome to apply; a local rate will apply

Preferred Experience / Skills

• ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration certification already obtained
• Experience with patient diagnoses including AKI, sepsis, septic shock, cancer/malignant neoplasms, encephalopathy, ARF, diabetic foot ulcers, and pain management
• Familiarity with unit systems including PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR communication
• First-time travelers are accepted and encouraged to apply
