Communications Intern

Avid Core is seeking a part-time Communications Intern to support communications and outreach activities for state and local initiatives.

The preferred work location for this position is Harrisonburg, Virginia. Working under the guidance of experienced team members, the intern will assist with content development, stakeholder outreach, digital communications, research, and project coordination while gaining practical experience in a professional consulting environment.

Hourly Rate: $20/hour. This is a part-time position.

Internship Duration: 3 months.

Overall Responsibilities:

• Assist with drafting and editing basic communications materials, including emails, flyers, videos, and social media content
• Contribute to the development and implementation of communications strategies and marketing plans
• Assist with organizing and staffing in-person community engagement events and activities
• Help collect, organize, and maintain project data, notes, and trackers
• Support outreach efforts by helping distribute materials and promote initiatives
• Review and proofread documents for clarity, grammar, and consistency
• Provide administrative and project coordination support as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills:

• Able to attend and participate in in-person engagement events located in and around the City of Harrisonburg
• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an associate or bachelor's degree, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, government, or a related field.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Professional and confident interacting with stakeholders, including clients and project teams
• Basic design skills and proficiency in Canva or similar design software

Education:

Candidates should be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, government, or a related field.

Location:

The preferred location of employment for this part-time internship is Harrisonburg, Virginia. The position may follow a hybrid schedule with time both on-site and remote, depending on project and client requirements.

Candidates will be provided with a computer; however, they must have a steady internet connection and a phone.
