The role involves coordinating scheduling within assigned areas, providing proactive management for the service area, supervising and counseling nursing staff, collaborating with nurse coordinators and other managers, and providing direct nursing care to individual patients as needed. The position is flexible, may require alternate shift patterns, and may allocate additional pay for evening, nighttime, or weekend work. Responsibilities Observe, assess, plan, intervene, evaluate, and document patient care under supervision. Coordinate scheduling, provide proactive management, and supervise nursing staff. Collaborate with nurse coordinators, managers, and psychiatric supervisors to ensure continuity of care. Provide direct nursing care to patients as needed. Participate in disaster response and/or continuity of operations activities as required. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Attend work on a regular basis; may be asked to work a specific or rotating schedule, extended shifts, and/or overtime. Assess the health and mental status of patients upon admission, transfer, and ongoing basis; document assessments, planning, interventions, and evaluations. Provide direction and coordination of staffing and patient care activities on assigned units. Facilitate smooth admission and transfer processes and communicate with admissions and unit staff. Carry out medical staff orders and implement nursing interventions in accordance with policies. Provide and document individual and group teaching to patients about medications and treatments. Implement special precautions, explain restrictions, and apply restraint/seclusion procedures safely. Participate in the client abuse and neglect process and ensure patient safety; monitor and implement TIPS protocols. Attend mandatory trainings and participate in ongoing in‑service education programs. Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor, including roles in disaster response and continuity of operations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of recognized American Nurses Association Nursing Standards. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures. Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act. Skill in supervisory and management techniques. Skill and ability to perform CPR, aggression management, restraint techniques, and emergency care in medical or psychiatric settings. Skill in positive interaction with patients, staff, families, and the public. Ability to handle crisis situations calmly. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Licensure, Registrations, or Certifications Must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Initial Screening Criteria Graduation from a Nursing Program accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. At least six (6) months’ experience as a practicing registered nurse. At least six (6) months’ experience as a practicing registered nurse in a health agency, hospital, or health‑care facility is preferred. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
