Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational or school environments preferred
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or equivalent credential
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the needs of Deaf and hard-of-hearing students
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
- Flexibility to adapt to varying student needs and classroom environments
- Commitment to confidentiality and adherence to professional codes of conduct
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities between staff, students, and others, ensuring clear and accurate communication
- Adapt signing style and vocabulary to match student grade levels and content areas
- Provide interpretation for school events, meetings, and extracurricular activities as assigned
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to facilitate an accessible and inclusive classroom environment
- Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by school protocols
- Support students in gaining confidence and independence in their educational journey
