Make a meaningful difference supporting students in a dynamic school setting near Waukee, IA as a Sign Language Interpreter. In this contract role, you'll play a vital part in fostering understanding and accessibility for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Your expertise in American Sign Language will help bridge communication between students, educators, and their peers, encouraging full participation and engagement throughout the school day.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in a school environment
- Ability to interpret in real-time across various classroom subjects and activities
- Professional certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter is preferred
- Strong skills in facilitating communication and supporting learning needs
- Flexibility, adaptability, and collaboration within an educational team
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities for students who require sign language services
- Facilitate communication between students, staff, and other school community members
- Support student participation in academic, social, and extracurricular activities
- Follow ethical guidelines for confidentiality and professional conduct
- Adjust interpreting methods to accommodate the diverse needs and preferences of students
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to plan and prepare for classroom requirements
