Clinical Research Coordinator II - Grant Funded - Cardiology

How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare The Clinical Research Coordinator will support clinical trials in the Department of Cardiology at Carilion Clinic. The role involves guiding research investigators/physicians on research policies and processes, enabling successful collaborations with research sponsors, monitoring and tracking study progress, assisting with study design, regulatory submission and maintenance, managing research subject visits, and any other research‑related duties as required. The coordinator maintains compliance with study protocols, governing agency guidelines, and institutional policy, and works under the supervision of the Department of Medicine Clinical Research Unit. Responsibilities Provide guidance to researchers on protocols, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies. Serve as liaison between research sponsors, site management, local IRB, physicians, and R&D. Recruit, screen, enroll study participants, and obtain informed consent. Manage completion and submission of study documentation and maintain correspondence with sponsors, CROs, and regulatory bodies. Monitor enrollment goals and implement action plans to meet targets. Coordinate tasks such as developing informed consents, scheduling visits, and acting as liaison between participants and the study team. Collect and process data from patient charts, medical records, interviews, questionnaires, diagnostic tests, and research specimens. Track and report adverse events and protocol deviations. Coordinate site monitoring or auditing visits from sponsors or federal agencies throughout the study. Prepare and maintain IRB, R&D, FDA, and other regulatory documents and correspondence. Develop and maintain patient databases and study maintenance logs (training logs, delegation logs, screening logs, enrollment logs, investigational product logs). Provide mentorship and training to junior CRCs and support all research team members. Assist with protocol feasibility determinations, barrier identification, data collection system development, and grant proposal or manuscript preparation. Compassionate toward patients and their families/caregivers. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in science or related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of clinical research experience combined with a Master’s degree in science or related field, or a minimum of five (5) years of clinical research experience combined with a Bachelor’s degree in science or related field. Licensure and Certification Nationally recognized clinical research certification from the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SoCRA) or Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) required upon hire. International Air Transport Association (I.A.T.A.) certification required for projects involving specimen transport prior to IRB application. Technical and Interpersonal Skills Excellent computer skills with strong knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet applications. Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to work with multiple interruptions and perform multiple tasks concurrently. Leadership, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Knowledge of medical and/or pharmaceutical terminology desirable.
