Background Investigator (Part-Time)

Position Description We are inviting professional and positive individuals to join the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office as a Background Investigator. This is a temporary, part time, non-exempt, on-site position. Pay & Benefits Hiring Range: $35.05 per hour. Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: $31.00 to $43.38 per hour. Advancement/professional development opportunities. Work Location This position will work from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, located at 13301 Hanson Blvd NW, Andover, MN 55304. Job Duties and Responsibilities These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Background Investigator. Perform moderately complex investigative and administrative tasks to determine employment suitability for county employees and contractors. Conduct criminal background checks, driving record checks, investigations, and examinations of applicants. Conduct comprehensive face-to-face interviews and background investigations on applicants and contractors. Keep management informed on the status of the background check and the candidate’s eligibility. Serve as the point of contact for candidates to provide them status updates on the investigation, answer questions, address concerns and advise on the outcome. Document all report information in a clear and concise manner. Qualifications and Requirements Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Requires an Associate degree and at least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience. In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Previous experience in sworn law enforcement. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed Degree in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or related field. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to interact with a variety of individuals and personalities. Strong communication and writing skills. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Standard office environment, travel to various county work sites and meetings as needed. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness. Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds. Assignments are sedentary, occasionally alternating between sitting, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling as required to perform job responsibilities. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation to complete computer work. Occasional lifting of 10-20 lbs. Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment. Travel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle.
