Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Emergency Department position requiring 2 years of ED experience, an active MD or Compact RN license, and comfort with rotating night/evening shifts including every other weekend.

Details

• General Emergency Department serving a combined adult and pediatric population across all age ranges (infant to geriatric)
• Facility is both STEMI and Stroke Certified
• Patient diagnoses span all body systems, including complex and multi-system presentations in a high-acuity, fast-paced setting
• Patient ratio is 1:4, with the possibility of up to 1:5 for lower-acuity patients
• Rotating night and evening shifts; primary need is for night shift (19:00–07:30), with evening shifts (15:00–03:30) as part of the rotation
• Schedule is 3x12 or 4x12 hours per week (36 or 48 hours)
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required as scheduled
• Floating required within the ED specialty and to sister facilities as needed; travelers are first to float
• No pre-scheduled on-call shifts required
• Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

• Active MD or Compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, CPI — all BLS/ACLS/PALS must be AHA-issued; CPI must be completed through the Calm Every Storm online platform if done online
• Preferred certifications: NRP (AHA or AAP accepted) and TNCC
• Minimum 2 years of ED nursing experience required
• Community hospital experience required
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency in high-acuity ED skills including triage, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG/ECG, BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilator care, chest tube management, intubation, procedural sedation, IV vasopressors, continuous IV paralytics/sedation, central line care, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
• Experience managing psychiatric patients, including acute psychosis, suicidal patients, psychiatric holds, drug overdose, and behavioral emergencies
• Experience with neurological emergencies including CVA and stroke protocols
• Ability to manage and apply orthopedic splints
• Compliance labs must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
• Permanent address must be 50 or more miles from the facility

• Candidates must be willing to float within scope and across sister ED facilities (Cambridge, Chestertown, Queenstown) without restrictions
• Travelers who were formerly permanent staff at this health system must have been separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
• Return travelers must have been away from the health system for at least 6 months after completing a prior assignment
• A maximum of 7 days of time-off may be requested; requests for more than 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the contract
• Holiday time-off policies vary; one major winter holiday off may be available depending on the unit
• Most contracts allow for one extension before a 6-month break from the facility is required
• Compliance documents are due 5 business days prior to the start date
• This is an auto-offer position; candidates must be prepared to accept without an interview
• CPI certification will be completed during onboarding if not already held
