EECS Enrollment and Scheduling Manager / Undergraduate Advisor (5157) Job 86916 - Electrical Engine

Responsibilities Academic Advising (30%) Identify and refer intricate student issues, including alleged discrimination, grade disputes, and personal crises; recommend petition exceptions and facilitate new course approvals through coordination with College Policy and Academic Senate. Provide one‑on‑one advising to students in EECS, ECE, and CDSS Computer Science majors, serving as first‑line resource for departmental policies, academic requirements, research, mentoring, internships, scholarships, and career planning. Offer outreach to students struggling in EECS courses, coordinating resources and strategies to improve study habits and addressing crises with appropriate referrals. Collaborate with the Director of EECS Undergraduate Affairs to assess and resolve complex grievances such as suicide prevention, stress, alleged discrimination, and to identify suitable alternative majors for denied students. Advise on EECS/CS minors and administer all aspects of the minor program, including declaration and completion certification for diploma annotation. Program Oversight (30%) Recommend improvements to scheduling and enrollment management, handling one of the largest and most complex scheduling caseloads on campus. Co‑develop curriculum plans with faculty and other departments, ensuring course sequences progress smoothly, conflicts are avoided, and campus policies are followed. Draft term course schedules based on course listings, enrollment trends, and faculty availability; analyze enrollment data to advise department management. Secure classrooms for courses considering scheduling office constraints, enrollment trends, instructor preferences, equipment, and facility needs, and advise faculty and managers on options. Coordinate faculty teaching workload according to department policy and support undergraduate program initiatives with the Director of EECS Undergraduate Affairs. Recruitment and Admissions (20%) Develop outreach strategies, identify target institutions, and advise departments on transferability and applicability of non‑UC Berkeley courses. Assist in admissions decisions for EECS and ECE majors, involving faculty support in difficult cases and evaluating articulation agreements with Community Colleges. Plan and implement outreach programs for target institutions, advising prospective applicants on academic preparation and fit with program goals. Lead student events such as Cal Day, Golden Bear Orientation, and graduation reception, managing catering, volunteers, and event logistics. Department Policies (15%) Advise chairs and deans on policy formulation, clarification, and solutions, analyzing consequences and recommending revisions. Communicate enrollment policies to students via webpages, social media, and advising; manage enrollment limits, seat reservations, and course restrictions; handle drops and wait‑list replacements. Submit Course Approval Forms to the Academic Senate Committee for additions, changes, or withdrawals of courses. Advise faculty on policies, review student progress, recommend interventions for progression problems, and collaborate on curriculum planning. Professional Development (5%) Participate in student services committees that develop campus‑wide policies and procedures. Stay current on college student affairs issues through classes, meetings, and networking; keep abreast of national advising trends and best practices. Required Qualifications Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Proficiency with computer applications and understanding of university and departmental procedures for risk assessment. Advanced verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and multicultural competencies, ability to work with diverse populations. Advanced knowledge of visa and immigration policies for international students and scholars. Problem identification, reasoning, persuasion, and leadership skills. Ability to monitor and assess processes or services for improvement. In‑depth knowledge of post‑degree employment opportunities in the field. Project management skills; social perceptiveness to understand reactions.
