Physical Therapist Assistant, Full Time, Day Shift

Job Summary Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) working under limited supervision of a physical therapist, administering APTA standard physical therapy treatments to relieve pain, restore motor function, and maintain optimal performance through therapeutic exercises, heat treatments, massages, hydrotherapy treatments, wound care, electricity, and other modalities prescribed by physicians. Education and Qualifications Graduate of an APTA accredited School for Physical Therapist Assistants or eligible for registration as a physical therapy assistant in the State of California. Licenses and Certifications Current CPR course completion. Licensed California Physical Therapy Assistant. Member of APTA (preferred). Qualifications Valid California driver's license when travel is required. Ability to organize and monitor the work of others. Ability to relate effectively with patients, nurses, physicians and other hospital/home health staff in a courteous, professional manner. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Analytical and diagnostic ability to interpret patient physician orders and develop an effective treatment plan. Evidence of automobile insurance when travel is required. Job Roles Administer and perform standard physical therapy procedures including active/assisted/passive/resistive exercise, massage, walking, running, muscle re‑education, and various PT modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, traction devices, fomentations, whirlpools, etc., and give instruction on proper use of wheelchairs, crutches, canes, braces, prosthetic devices, and other supports. Assist with ongoing collaborative interdisciplinary planning to ensure high quality services. Observe work schedule and comply with hospital and departmental policies including overtime, attendance, vacation, confidentiality, and complete assigned projects timely. Attend case conferences to evaluate and discuss patient progress and future plans for therapy. Attend departmental staff meetings and in‑service meetings as required. Check with physical therapist periodically to reassess and plan additional therapy for the patient. Participate in patient review meetings bimonthly. Conform to departmental quality assurance standards and procedures regularly. Demonstrate and instruct patients and other clinical staff on proper use of PT modalities, massage, exercises, and other therapies between treatments. Provide care appropriate to the age of the patients/individuals served, assessing data relative to age‑specific needs. Document patient progress by recording treatment records, filing notes, and writing progress notes daily or as required. Instruct patient’s family/caregivers on prescribed discharge program when necessary. Stay current on latest developments in physical therapy by reading literature and participating in education classes, demonstrating competence for the position. Maintain and meet expectations on time for all competencies, licensing, certifications, and educational requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health, Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory agencies. Maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information within the hospital and community setting. Operate equipment safely and share responsibility for communication safety violations or unsafe practices with management. Orient patient to all therapeutic procedures involved and comfort patient by reassuring throughout treatment sessions. Participate in performance improvement plan activities as requested or needed. Prepare patient and PT modalities such as traction devices and exercise equipment for prescribed treatments, instructing patient, family, and staff on correct cervical and pelvic traction procedures. Relate well with other staff members and hospital personnel in a courteous, professional manner at all times. Report patient progress or any complications directly to the attending physician as needed. Schedule and complete visits within established timeframes. Takes initiative to contact physical therapist or other health care professionals as needed to ensure quality care. The physical therapist will assess, plan, and evaluate physician orders for implementation of physical therapy treatment; the therapist may elect to have the registered physical therapist assistant implement the treatment. Utilize appropriate oral and written communication skills sufficient to meet job demands. Willingly perform other duties and innovations as assigned. Physical Requirements Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking inclines and declines, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions. Close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional lifting of boxes or supplies up to 20 pounds.
