Job Description Position Summary: The Associate Director of Marketing leads the University’s creative strategy and visual communications, ensuring all marketing and branding materials reflect Long Island University’s identity with consistency, innovation, and impact. Reporting to the Chief of Brand Strategy, this role provides creative direction for campaigns, manages design priorities across departments, and serves as the University’s lead for brand licensing. The Associate Director works collaboratively with colleagues across the Marketing & Communications team—particularly those leading web, email, storytelling, and publications—to produce integrated campaigns that strengthen enrollment, advancement, alumni engagement, athletics, and institutional reputation. Key Responsibilities Lead and execute integrated marketing strategies across digital, print, and media channels to advance enrollment, retention, fundraising, and brand awareness. Ensure brand consistency in messaging, tone, and visual identity across all University platforms. Collaborate with departments across the University—including Academic Affairs, Admissions, Advancement, Athletics, and Student Affairs—to support recruitment, retention, fundraising, and institutional branding goals. Manage and mentor student workers, interns, part-time staff, and contracted vendors as assigned. Coordinate multichannel campaigns (email, web, social media, print, video) that align with institutional priorities. Use analytics to measure campaign effectiveness and adjust strategies based on data insights. Identify and implement emerging trends and best practices in higher education marketing. Represent the University at select internal and external events, ensuring high-impact brand representation. Other duties as assigned by the Chief of Brand Strategy or senior University leadership. Focus Area Responsibilities: Marketing & Graphic Design Develop and oversee creative concepts, campaign visuals, and design systems that advance University priorities in enrollment, advancement, athletics, and alumni engagement. Provide oversight, project guidance, and mentorship to the Graphic Designer, ensuring alignment with institutional brand standards and campaign goals. Serve as a steward of the LIU brand, maintaining consistency across colors, typography, logos, templates, and graphic elements. Update and evolve guidelines as needed. Manage the University’s brand licensing program in partnership with CLC and Brand Manager 360. Review, approve, and track licensing requests; ensure compliance with University brand standards; and collaborate with vendors, retailers, and Athletics to expand the visibility of LIU’s licensed merchandise. Manage design requests from internal stakeholders, balancing competing priorities and ensuring delivery of professional-quality materials on time and within scope. Work closely with fellow department Associate Directors to integrate strong design elements into video, photography, social media, and special projects for a unified visual identity; design layouts, covers, and visual elements for flagship publications, newsletters, and donor/advancement collateral; and supply creative assets, graphics, and templates that ensure a cohesive digital presence across websites, emails, and CRM-driven campaigns. Support Advancement and Alumni Relations with annual fund and stewardship campaigns, and partner with Admissions, Student Success, and Campus Life on creative assets for recruitment, admitted‑student, and current‑student campaigns. Lead design for high‑profile University events (Commencement, Homecoming, Centennial, etc.) and produce signage, banners, and displays that elevate the campus brand environment. Research and apply new design technologies, platforms, and techniques that improve efficiency, expand creative possibilities, and enhance audience engagement. Oversee relationships with printers, merchandise vendors, and production houses to ensure materials are delivered at the highest standard. Education Requirements A bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual communications, marketing, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is strongly preferred. Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in graphic design, creative direction, or marketing communications, preferably in higher education or nonprofit sectors. Proven expertise in creative concept development and design execution across print, digital, and environmental formats. Strong proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and emerging design platforms. Experience supervising design staff and managing multiple, complex projects with competing priorities. Strong knowledge of brand licensing systems (Brand Manager 360, CLC) and compliance processes. Excellent visual storytelling skills with a deep understanding of branding, typography, and design systems. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across cross‑functional marketing and communications teams. Strong project management, organizational, and vendor coordination skills. Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices for inclusive design. Working Conditions Some evening and weekend work may be required for project deadlines and University events.
