Job Title: CNC Machinist / CNC Operator-Setup Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment to produce and finish metal parts used in a foundry manufacturing environment. You will interpret blueprints and work orders, perform hands-on machining, and make basic CNC program edits to support efficient and accurate production.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment to produce metal parts for foundry operations.

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to understand job requirements and machining specifications.

• Load raw materials and securely install tooling required for each job, ensuring proper setup and alignment.

• Use measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to verify part dimensions and maintain tight tolerances.

• Perform basic CNC programming edits to adjust and optimize machining operations as needed.

• Collaborate with the existing CNC machinist/programmer to share workload and support programming responsibilities.

• Monitor machines during operation to detect issues, make adjustments, and maintain consistent part quality.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area around CNC mills, lathes, and associated equipment.

• Follow all shop procedures and production instructions to meet quality, safety, and productivity standards.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes in a manufacturing environment.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders accurately.

• Proficiency using precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.

• Hands-on CNC machining skills with the ability to perform setup and run production parts.

• Fundamental CNC programming knowledge with the ability to make program edits.

• Experience working with machine tools including lathes and mills in a metalworking environment.

• Capability to work safely and effectively in a foundry-related setting involving hot metals.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience as a CNC programmer or CNC setup machinist.

• Interest in learning and further developing CNC programming skills.

• Comfort working in a high-temperature environment where metals are melted and processed.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality parts.

• Ability to collaborate with other machinists and programmers to share responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position operates on a first shift schedule starting at 5:00 AM. You will work in a foundry-related environment where metals are melted and processed, which can be very hot and requires consistent attention to safety. The role involves daily use of CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment, as well as precision measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers. You should expect a hands-on, industrial setting focused on metal machining and production.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
