Director of Human Resources

CMC is a 100% employee-owned (ESOP) life safety manufacturing company that has been located in Goleta, California for 48 years. We design, manufacture, and distribute a wide variety of products and offer training and education, which enable professionals in the rope rescue, rope access, and work at height industries to do their jobs with greater safety and efficiency. SUMMARY:

Working for the CEO as part of the Senior Leadership team, The Human Resources Director, drives employee focused initiatives to ensure alignment of strategy and business needs to support a high-performance culture. As a key member of the Leadership Team, the HR Director participates in creating the organization's culture and employee facing programs and strategy. In this growing 110 person manufacturing company. The company is working actively to expand our product offerings, sales footprint, and product lines. This person will have hands-on leadership responsibility as the company grows in revenue and physical footprint that will involve multiple sites, including Mexico, but continue to lead our growth from our Goleta,[WO1] CA headquarters. CMC supports rescue workers around the world and embodies a culture of active service, high-quality products, and collaboration between teammates and customers

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Orientation:

• Exercises strategic decision making by applying knowledge of the business, goals and vision.
• Able to assess strategic implications of HR policies and decisions for effective impact.
• Leads effective compensation and succession planning with CEO and Senior Leadership Team.
• Participates in the evaluation and integration of business expansion opportunities.
• Has direct responsibility for parts of the Human Resources functions and leads team members on some functions.
• Leadership in training and development of team at all levels.

Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP):

• Collaborates on management and communication of the ESOP with Finance team and external consultants

Human Resources Administration & Operations:

• Develops key metrics of company culture and business success.
• Supports leaders at all levels with planning, effective communication strategies, and coaching.
• Oversee recruiting with an eye to efficient and complainant selection, hiring, and onboarding.
• Assesses team development needs and implements training and development strategies.
• Proactively contributes to employee relations, mediation, and conflict resolution.
• Responsible for performance management process, tools, implementation and training.
• Collaborate and oversee on-boarding program to ensure successful orientation and assimilation.
• Maintain appropriate Employee Handbook.
• Address job performance and employee relations matters with diplomacy and care.
• Oversee benefits design and administration by providing strategic direction on plan design.
• Budget responsibility for Human Resource Department.
• Management and oversight of the Human Resource staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Requirements

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Strong knowledge of California and Federal Employment Laws
• Decerning and careful with investigations from complaints and leading effective interventions strategies,
• Work with multiple projects and departments.
• Proficiency with HRIS and Microsoft Office essential.
• Trustworthy character with confidential information matters.
• Decisive and collaborative.
• A broad knowledge of training and development tools & techniques.
• Skilled in presenting/facilitating to diverse audiences.

Qualifications (Education and experience)

• 10+ years of Human Resources experience.
• A bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration or related field.
• SPHR-CP, SHRM-SCP, or HRCI PHR certification preferred.
• Appreciation for rescue services challenges.

Desired Experience

• Work experience in manufacturing.
• Understanding of engineering product development environment.
• Appreciation for and affinity with rescue services.
• Master's degree in related discipling.

Essential Functions

Working conditions are in-office (HQ in Goleta, CA). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit and stand; using the hands to handle, finger, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally, the employee must crouch or kneel. The employee must occasionally exert or lift up to 15 pounds. Successful performance requires good eyesight with or without corrective lens. Requires long periods of time working at a computer and includes phone work.
