Job Summary The Facilities Branch of the Finance and Facilities Division provides a wide range of facilities support and management services across multiple sections. These sections and responsibilities include: The National Capital Region Section: Provides timely, suitable, modern, safe and secure working environments/facilities and provides quality facility support services for the HQ Divisions in Washington, DC. The Real Property Management Section: Administers professional and responsive facilities management, including engineering and design research, construction and spatial modification solutions, maintenance and energy monitoring, and logistical services for the tenant organizations at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. The Redstone Facilities Services Section: Responsible for all planning, construction, occupancy, facilities, and services located across the FBI Redstone campus, Huntsville, AL. The Field Operations Support Section: Provides real estate and facility support services for the FBI’s 56 Field Office property portfolios and international Legat locations, and supports the FBI’s fleet inventory and firearms range program. Key Requirements Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance. Some travel may be required. Applicants must submit a copy of college transcripts by the closing date of the vacancy announcement. Physical Demands The work in the FBI Headquarters office is largely sedentary. Duties may require extensive periods away from the office for fire inspections, reviews, investigations, and safety training. Physical exertion such as walking, bending, climbing, crouching, reaching, and lifting may be required. Work Environment The duties involve exposure to machinery, equipment, toxic fumes, dust, hazardous materials, body fluids, high noise levels, and temperature extremes. Personal protective equipment and clothing may be required. Major Duties Serve as the senior technical authority for fire protection engineering aspects of planning, design, construction, and alteration of FBI facilities, providing guidance and oversight for budgeting and operations. Conduct technical design reviews of FBI facilities (owned or leased) to ensure compliance with Federal and local building and fire codes (IC, IFC, NFPA, GSA regulations). Apply fire codes and standards and assessment practices to identify fire hazards in facilities. Act as a fire protection inspector, conducting periodic inspections and reviews for regulatory compliance across a range of facilities such as firing ranges, warehouses, laboratories, repair shops, hazardous waste areas, and fueling stations. Assist facility management in eliminating or minimizing fire hazards, providing clear technical guidance and conducting fire protection component testing. Serve on the Source Selection Evaluation Board (SSEB) as the fire protection engineering expert for evaluation, selection, and negotiation of architectural and engineering services. Travel to project sites, existing facilities, and other locations within and outside the unit for organizational purposes and training. Competencies Interpersonal Ability Facilities Public Safety and Security Problem Solving/Judgement Flexibility/Adaptability Basic Requirements Degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or a program including required calculus, physics, and engineering science courses. Alternatively, a combination of education and experience that demonstrates knowledge of engineering sciences and practical application. Specialized Experience (SE) At least one year of experience equivalent to GS‑13 in engineering principles related to fire suppression, fire protection equipment, and administration of fire protection programs. Experience correctly interpreting building and fire code requirements. Experience in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications to identify potential fire code violations.
