Job Overview Date: Jul 15, 2026 Location: AUSTIN, TX Agency: Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) Functional Title: LTCR Inspector Job Title: Inspector V Department: APS Provider Investigations Posting Number: 19016 Closing Date: 09/13/2026 Salary Range: $5,035.99 - $6,779.25 monthly Shift: Day Travel: Up to 85% Work hours: 8 am – 5 pm, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. Responsibilities Conduct on-site inspections, complaint and incident investigations, and annual comprehensive surveys for long‑term care providers. Prepare written reports detailing deficiencies, remedies, and narrative to support regulatory determinations. Testify at hearings or court proceedings regarding findings and compliance determinations. Meet with facility staff to discuss preliminary findings and exit conferences. Establish priorities, gather evidence, ensure chain of custody, and conduct investigations. Review and approve corrective action plans; recommend enforcement actions. Train new hires and conduct on‑job training. Perform other duties as assigned and be available for on‑call duties. Qualifications Four‑year degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Experience interacting with or communicating with members of the public, in person or by phone. Experience conducting investigations preferred. Experience working with individuals with mental illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities, or physical disabilities preferred. Valid Class C (or higher) Texas driver’s license required. Ability to travel up to 80% of the time, including statewide, overnight, and weekend travel. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and interpretation of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to the program area. Skill in conducting inspections and investigations, determining proper courses of action. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, prepare reports, interpret laws and regulations, analyze data, and exercise professional judgment. Ability to multi‑task and manage competing priorities. Ability to work in potentially emotion‑filled, violent, or dangerous environments. Proficiency with computers, tablets, laptops, smartphones, fax machines, copy machines, and Microsoft Office. Licensure Requirements Valid Class C (or higher) Texas driver’s license or an equivalent license from another state. Additional Information Flexibility in work hours is required. The position involves approximately 80% travel, including statewide, overnight, and weekend travel. On‑call duties may be required for emergencies or high‑priority situations.
